The field of biology is dynamic- the scientific community is continuously making break throughs, in areas such as genetic mutations and diseases, cancer research, and creating new technologies that improve our health and future. This is only part of the reason why I find the field of science so fascinating; it is constantly changing, and I believe that progress in science is the key to the future of humankind.
Throughout my four years in high school, I have earned over 200 community hours, and participated in extracurriculars that relate to my devotion to science. In my community, I searched for opportunities relating to science and medicine; I completed many community hours volunteering in a specialized surgeon’s office, as well as participating in the Cyber Seniors Program. I possess many qualities that would make me an exceptional scientist. I am focused, curious, and organized. I am excellent at time management; I work approximately 27 hours a week, participate in extracurriculars (sports, councils), and maintain an above 80 average. I also have an outstanding work ethic, as I always go “above and beyond” of what I am asked, whether it be in my school work or part time job. I have determination and grit, and would apply those character traits in any scientific persuit.
In the future, I am interested in pursuing a career in genetic research, genetic engineering, or medicine. After high school, I plan on earning my B.Sc. (honours) in genetics, molecular biology, or biochemistry at the University of Western Ontario, University of Guelph, or University of Waterloo. I am also looking into completing my B.Sc. (specialization) in biomedical sciences at the University of Western
