While trying to find a piece of art I could connect with I knew it had to relate to Colorado somehow. Though Colorado itself is mainly known for the mountains and incredible scenery, there is plenty of art that can be seen in downtown Denver. One piece that I have always loved since I was a little girl is the Big Blue Bear that is peaking inside the Denver Convention Center. The Big Blue Bear is a very large sculpture of a bear, most people who are either from Colorado or visits Denver knows about this unique sculpture. Though I have seen the sculpture many times I never have taken the time to research who created it and why.
The sculptor's name is Lawrence Argent, he has created many famous pieces across America and even outside of America such as China. Denver was one of the lucky cities to have Lawrence create such an iconic piece of art in its small city. Lawrence's goal was to bring a part of Colorado's 'mountains' to the city and

The bear looks as if he is looking inside of Denver's convention center because Lawrence knew the convention center is where many meetings are held for companies to go and share different ideas to one another. Lawrence wanted the bear to look as if he is curious of what was being talked about. The bear is 40 ft. tall and is made of fiberglass and steel. When you see it in person it almost looks plastic because of the unique texture it has. Lawrence wanted to make the bear look as if it was a big toy because of the toys his son owned. Lawrence also explained how he did not intentionally want the bear to be blue. The bear originally was supposed to have a more sandstone color base but because of a printing mistake, he got the idea of making it a bold blue. He later discovered that the Native American Tribe 'Ute' who are from Colorado valued the black bear and also found the color blue to be spiritually enlightening, so he decided to keep the bear

O. Henry’s "Art and the Bronco" tells the story of Lonny Briscoe, a cowboy who is also an aspiring artist. It follows his quest to sell his first painting to the state legislature; to have it hung in the capital building. Lonny sees the sale of the painting as validation of his talent and worth as a painter. What he ends up learning is that the actual value of the painting turns out to be secondary to what other feel they can gain from it.
In the novel, Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen, Cole Matthews shows trustworthiness and Humility, but also lacks both of them. Cole was hurtful to others because Peter tries to protect himself and his peers (Mikalesen, 10-13).He also was careless because he didn’t care about others. For example, he didn’t care if Peter got hurt when he smashed Peters head against the sidewalk (Mikalesen, 7-8). Lastly, he was judgmental because he would pick who he wants to beat up by their actions and words (Mikalesen, 35). For example, he committed crimes because others treated him bad. Cole Matthews lacked but then gained compassion in the novel Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Michaelson.

He lived in the Old-West that helped ranchers as a cowboy and not only made paintings in his free time but carvings, sculptures, and sketches as well, earning him the nickname “Cowboy Artist”. His positive legacy carried on because of how he lived his personal interests, artwork, and because of his wife, Nancy Russell. Charles M. Russell’s existence is a critical piece to Montana’s history because of all the things he had done in his life and how it held an essence of a true man of the Old-West. His wife was key to his success as an artist as it was her who

He takes this goal upon himself after he experiences a great vision. In this vision, on pages 20 and 21, Black Elk is given a great power. Hey, I didn’t see you there, how are you?I'm just wondering whether or not a big ol' grizzly bear is going to come charging at me at any point in my life, but seeing as grizzly bears are endangered that probably won't happen. In the past, there were thought to be around 50,000 grizzly bears in North America, nowadays they are growing sparse there are estimated to be only around 1800, now not even a 20th of the population in the past. Most of these grizzlies are located in Yellowstone National Park and Alaska, but they can also be found in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and Montana. Some are thought to be in Washington.
Both are tributes to greatness. One is a federal monument and national icon, the other a solitary dream.” The impact of the statue to millions of people around the country would mean little to nothing if it was not near the site in which so many battles were fought, including the Battle of Little Bighorn. The cultural importance of this architecture lives on through the lives of the American people it has taught.

When you do something for your community, you give yourself a sense of pride in yourself. Being in Big Pals-Little Pals I have learned more than just leadership, responsibility, or accomplishment; I have gotten the chance to have someone that doesn't have much in life, look up to me. Responsibility is the ability to respond to a person that makes a demand on us (Messmore, p. 723). Being a role model to someone that is so much younger than I am gave me a feeling of pride. I became a Big-Pal because when I was growing up I didn't have a perfect childhood, and I know that the kids that are in this program are in it for a reason. If I can give back to just one person and make there childhood a little more memorable, a little more fun, and give them just a little more than what they were getting then that is all I needed to apply for the program. I am blessed to have been accepted to the program because I met an incredible seven year old that has changed my life probably more
