“Like a man outlawed for wickedness, he must await the mighty judgment of God in majesty.” The story “Beowulf” shows an internal battle of good verses evil. This battle has always been around since the beginning of time. It is the balance of all that we know. There are several themes of this battle, even from the very beginning of the story. The battle of good andevil with God and Cain, which in turn, produces the demon Grendel. The epic battles of the story consist of King Hrothgar and the evil Grendel, who is terrorizing the kingdom, and the hero of the story, Beowulf going up against many evils such as Grendel, Grendel’s mother and finally the dragon. Evil By:Emily HareBeowulf’s fight with Grendel is a prime example of a “fair” fight between good and evil. Beowulf always fought with dignity and his strength of faith in God. He made sure that if he was going to fight, that the odds were even for both sides. Beowulf was a true hero of good in this story. “He was the mightiest man of valor...”. He went up against many evils in his life; seamonsters, Grendel, and his mother and finally the dragon. Beowulf triumphed over evil because he left the outcome up to a higher power. He fought out of selfless service to his fellow men and this made him even more of a hero to the people.War is an evil that has always been a part of existence. Battles are fought over difference of beliefs and wanting what someone else has. This is just like Grendel attacking on King Hrothgar’s land because of riches that he was envious of. Instead of just one man coming to the assistance though, there are many people today that are willing to lay their lives down for the good of the people, a nation and even the world. If there is a country (or a Hrothgar) thatneeds help with an evil force, there is always a Beowulf that will step up and assist. There is no way to rid evil from the earth completely.
