Benjamin Franklin’s inventions were as revolutionary as the century itself. Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts January 17, 1706. Franklin grew up to be a great man who would help greatly in the creation of our nation. Although Ben Franklin is greatly known, not much attention is put into his great inventions; the Franklin stove, bifocals, and the mapping of the Gulf Stream where some of his inventions. Franklin’s inventions all had different impacts on the lives of people.
People used to light their fireplace for warmth, but the issue was that when the fire was burning the heat from the fireplace would rise up, leaving the house with little warmth. The only way to keep warm was to huddle close to the stove. In the winter if someone had company over anyone not by the stove would be cold except for the people in the room of the stove. When Benjamin Franklin realized these issues he had set out to find a way to resolve the issue. (Benton) (ushistory.org)
Benjamin Franklin started working on his own version of a fire place in 1741 and was completed and announced in 1742. It was a cast iron fireplace that had tubes running through the house that all lead out the chimney. Building the fire place had many problems to overcome before it could be practical and functional. Franklin had to find a way to stop the smoke from the stove from entering the house while at the same time producing the most heat to the house. Although Franklin is the only one credited with the making of the Franklin stove, Franklin had used others’ researched; most of Franklin’s concept was a combination of the main points of a French scientist’s book written in 1713 and a research by Dutch physician Herman Boerhaave. Did you know that Benjamin Franklin designed gadgets such as the first flexible urinary catheter, and an odometer for his carriage? Benjamin Franklin was genius tinker, diplomat, inventor and philosopher. Though he was removed from school at the age ten, receiving only two years of formal education, he went on to speak various languages fluently, play chess, and even design gadgets such as odometers and Franklin stoves. He was an all-around self-taught genius that could never be satisfied. He made discoveries about electricity, and used his newfound knowledge to design and built gadgets such as the lightning-rod, which is something that, despite its age, is still an effective method of protection against lightning. In 1751, Franklin published some his theories on electricity. Franklin had an attraction to electricity and invented the Franklin Stove, and coordinated the kite-and-key experiment. Franklin’s most famous experiment was when he flew a kite in a thunderstorm to prove that lighting is an electrical power. Franklin continued to pursue his interests in invention by inventing the lighting rod, swim fins, bifocals, and musical instruments.

Ben Franklin was born in Boston on a Sunday in January of 1706. His father was a candle maker and had many sons. Ben from a young age was a very adventurous boy, he was often getting in trouble. As a teen Ben Franklin went to work with his brother as a newspaper printer. Ben was in love with books and wanted to write a column in his brothers paper. He and his brother argued several times and Ben ran away to New York but soon ended up in Philadelphia running his own newspaper company. Ben Franklin was a scientist and inventor, we’ve all heard about Ben with electricity. Ben Franklin was also a major founding father of the constitution and was viewed as a very patriotic person.

He was the youngest boy in the family, but he did have two younger sisters. When he wasn’t helping out with his father’s candle and soap shop or chores around the house, Benjamin spent his free time swimming in the nearby Mill Pond and journeying around the colony.
