Students around the Nation have always pleaded to have no school on Fridays. In fact, for many schools around the nation, school on Friday has already been abolished. This letter is of regards to those who believe (and have not received) that school on Friday should be terminated! Students who go to school - whether it be elementary, middle, or high school - have always wanted less school. I, along with the rest, do believe that decreasing school days would be very beneficial for students as well as teachers. School provides a lot of work. There are eight total classes in a semester, and sometimes it can be hard to keep up with everything that school asks of its students. Because of all the work, students tend to ignore the requirements school has. (For example, students will ignore due dates or study suggestions.) However, taking Fridays off (and replacing the days with extra weeks of school) will provide success for the students. As of 2012, the average high school student average GPA is 3.34. I believe this number may increase with less school. Why do I say so? In school, there is usually a specific task at hand with nothing else being done accepted as appropriate. For example, if someone is studying History in science class, it is considered inappropriate. Without schools on Fridays, students could study what they want when they want. GPAs will increase with a well-balanced education. There will be less failing classes as an overall. Usually teachers provide students with a lot of schoolwork that can be completed upon thorough studying. However, there’s no room left to do well in any other classes. A student can study really hard to get an A in one class, but barely pass all the other classes or study moderately to have al... ... middle of paper ... ... spend time with with family and friends.” It is very clear that getting rid of school on Friday is very beneficial to students as well as teachers in success, and teachers not having to reiterate EVERYTHING multiple times. But the students are not the only ones benefitting from this. Oh, no. Teachers will have more time to grade work, overall reducing that stress. Also, teachers will get more times for vacation and spending time with family. So, with no school on Friday, teachers are also presented with advantages. School, without Friday, in conclusion, is very beneficial to both teachers and students regarding education as well as personal time spent for fun. I hope this is taken into consideration. Students now have the opportunity to work another day to save for their future. The four-day school week also provides much more time for these children to spend and enjoy time with friends, and family, as well as enjoying extracurricular activities. There is a lovely environment for the children at the school and an extra day for the instructors to gain knowledge and a better understanding of their curriculum. The schools will be saving a varying amount of money that could be used in case of an emergency with money of any kind. Whether it is an emergency funding program, or money to fund an extracurricular activity. In conclusion, the four-day school week has proven itself to be a very effective form of education that Colby Public Schools most certainly should switch to within the coming
School is usually a huge part of every child’s daily agenda. Teenagers in high school basically dedicate their entire day to school and homework. Students in grade 8 are similarly going through the same process as high school students. As students work 2 months after the Winter Break, some of them tend to start reducing their quality of work. When we’re tired of doing school work for two straight months, why should we only receive a short March break?
Family vacations, pool memberships, and corn de-tasseling; these have been the experiences of traditional Midwestern summers. For centuries young American children have attended school during the winter months, during farming off seasons when their families could afford to be without them. Families have grown accustomed to a traditional school calendar that provides time for bonding throughout the year. Students have grown accustomed to an eight week break during the summer months where they are allowed to refresh their minds before returning for a new school year. Unfortunately, these traditional experiences and practices are now in jeopardy. In today’s race to improve student achievement, traditional school calendars have become a point of contention. Today more and more school districts and parents alike have begun to debate the pros and cons of an alternative school calendar.
Another benefit of later school start times is health benefits for the students. Because of the hormonal
To begin with, students have more time in class. Since there is more time, students can finish homework and other assignments during school hours. After a long day of work and assignments, I feel that coming home and doing more
Because of the extra day off every week, there is money saved from things such as lunches, bussing, staff salaries, and utility costs. In an article about the advantages of a four day school week, it is stated that “Transportation costs including fuel, bus maintenance and driver salaries are reduced. Also, if facilities are used only four days per week instead of five, there is a significant reduction in utility costs to the system. Money spent to fund school breakfast and lunch programs are reduced by 20 percent, as is spending associated with all hourly cafeteria and custodial workers” (Bradley 2). In another article through the University of Scranton, they say “Transportation costs [are] down 35 percent, and utility costs are down by 8 percent” (Bisk 4). Based on these statistics, schools can save enough money, to make the conversion worth it. These are just some of the things the schools can save money on, there are others, but these alone prove that schools save favorable amounts of money when they shorten their week by just a
“High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation” (Charles F. Kettering). Correspondingly, the Bolsa Grande High School Council decided to vote unanimously to raise the GPA from 2.0 to 3.0. The council felt that students should focus more in school rather than participating in a sport or a club. The school council made the correct decision because it develops work habits, helps students go to better colleges, and prepares students for professional life.
In addition to a system where few in a class receive a failing grade and if a student falls below the line have the opportunity to obtain a successful grade in the course by completing extra course work and offering an opportunity to retake tests/quizzes. A student will be more willing to take a risk by taking a class that they may not get an A in. For example, many students, including seniors would opt out of taking Chemistry due to the fact they may not receive a “good” grade. While, these students may be protecting their high GPA's they miss out of the opportunity to gain a higher level of logic. Honor and AP classes benefits a student by challenging them and improve their study habits, but find the subjects that one may excel at.
Students tend to learn better when they don't miss school. . To summarize, having fewer absences, tardies and referrals could lead to a brighter educational environment with more stimulating and contributing students. Along with the two reasonable and advanced benefits, students get a 3 day weekend instead of 2 days, which is valuable as students can get an extra day of relaxation. According to an Indiana school,"Having one weekday off of school each week allows more flexibility for teachers and students.
...on what they have learned by attending more days in school but not getting burned out on a traditional nine month school schedule. A few short breaks allows the mind to rest but not forget everything they have worked hard to achieve educational greatness. American society will achieve great things if the education system takes a step in all schools operating on a year round calendar.
We don't realize how much teachers work during summer. they do a lot.According to neatoday.org they state "As educators begin a new school year they usually have time to attend staff meetings, tidy up classrooms, and prepare for upcoming students."Well since the 45 to 15 day week thing teachers only have 15 days to do those things. Witch probably leaves little to no time for them to spend time with family or to relax. Also found on neatoday.org , "There is much pressureSetting up the classroom and getting ready for the kids return.'' Witch is completely unfair to the teachers just because there school bored decided to run a new schedule.
Students test scores are slipping because of 4-day school weeks.I believe we shouldn’t have a 4-day school week because studies have shown that schools with 4-day school weeks test scores have declined in 2012 and even more in 2013.Teachers from every school with 4-day school weeks say that kids don’t pay attention because they add 30 minutes to each class time during the 4-day school week.Courtney Fisher is a second grade teacher. She says that the students seem tired all the time and eat much more in class.

School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
