From a time, longer than I could remember, I had always known that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. My first choice was in Obstetrics, then after a few years, it changed to Dentistry. It was not until around the age of 11 that I discovered the career that I wanted to pursue after college, which was Orthopedic Surgery. Now to this day, this has been the first career choice that I still follow, research, and can proudly say I still hope to obtain.
Truthfully, I can say that I did not really have anyone who particularly influenced me to choose the career path that I desire. I will say however that my drive to become an Orthopedic Surgeon became much stronger when I realized the lack of women in the profession. Most women do not prefer career in this field because of the long hours and strenuous activity. Generally, people would rather shorter work weeks and more flexible hours.
While Orthopedic Surgery may not be the most popular choice in the medical field, it is one of the top three most high paying ones. A general Orthopedic Surgeon that is just starting out earns a salary of $315,000 a year. Depending on the specialization in the field, the salary will vary as well. Surgeons that are trying to work in this specific field must develop very specific knowledge of medical technology and ethics, especially since they must learn how to work quickly under pressure. Surgeons in the profession diagnose and assess injuries through testing, although, there are times when treatment can be done non-invasively.
