For many americans, sports are a common staple of a weekly schedule with intentions not in vain. It widely known that sports have many benefits that will be discussed in this paper. For one, sports have been proven to have educational benefits . Some people might say that youth sports have a high risk of inquires, but with the right knowledge, anyone can prevent them. Every year over 7,807,000 high school students, including me, play a sport through their school (they are counted twice if they play two sports and so on) (NFHS). I have found that playing basketball is a great way to get involved in the school and meet new people. However, in the past 7 years, sport participation in middle and high school has gone down by more than 4.9% (Facts: Sports Activity). Playing a sport is important, studies show that playing sports in high school not only builds character, but can also increase student health and fitness, and contribute to an athlete’s future success.
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. A major way to reduce or eliminate these numbers would be to get more participation in high school athletics. Reduced social anxiety and stress as well as an increase in self-perception ensures the child with be positively impacted by sports programs. Future parents, educators, and government officials need to take this information into consideration in order to promote healthy lifestyles for children. Further research should be conducted to examine specific sports and the benefits that can come from these. Having children participate in sports programs can deter issues that are currently rising in society, such as obesity and behavioral problems. There are some limitations that are in sports, such as injury or placing an importance on winning, but the positive benefits heavily outweigh the negative. In conclusion, starting to do sports at an early age has many advantages on children’s both physical and psychological development, which can easily be observed by looking at the children around us who do and do not do sports. Although it is very easy to see the benefits of doing sports, there are still some people who make excuses and develop defense mechanisms about doing sports being bad. However, the psychologies of the individuals who are interested in doing sports are stronger than others and they can deal with stress and pressure more easily. Also, sports are important for individuals in avoiding major chronic diseases.
