Being biased means that one is simply in favor of or is against the opposing side. Also, being biased can be shown by making someone think that one's way is the only way, not to care about the others beliefs. Being biased means that if an individual believes differently than others, this person's viewpoints are incorrect; this can been seen as being “prejudice” towards a person, place, or thing. In addition, most sources that distribute news are seen to be biased with the involvement of politics. As well as being biased, some news sources exaggerate on the information provided in the highly publicized stories. Bernie Goldberg, a prior CBS News reporter, discusses how the media is biased with certain topics, with John Stossel, a Fox News reporter. During this discussion, Goldberg stated that the news is filtered by one group that shares the same opinion to where it's filtered thru a liberal prism (Goldberg and Stossel). Before the dawn of cable, there were two sides, liberal and extreme liberal. Also, before cable was created, there was approximately one to three news channels to choose from. However, after the creation of cable, there are multiple news channels that the viewer can select from. Most of the news sources are owned or ran by people that have political ties or partnerships. In addition this, the news channels will exaggerate stories in order to increases the amount of viewers that will be tuning into the broadcast. Then again, some stations are biased and only provide facts that the stations owners or sponsors support. That reason makes it almost necessary for some news channels to have all of the facts, truths, and sides to the story or topic. There are six main or popular news channels to chose from on cable; the major channels include; CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, NBC, ABC, and CBS. From these networks, Fox News is the only news channel to be labeled as a conservative site. On the other hand CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and NBC are all labeled to be liberal or even extreme liberal. Being liberal or extreme liberal allows those stations to attempt to show both sides of the story. But being conservative allows that station to only share its side of beliefs and facts. These labels and sides are what change the information in the news, while also leaving out some important content, depending on which side they chose. Sometimes, personal political beliefs get in the way of the truth. For example, if an owner of a major news channel is a friend of a presidential campaign runner’s advisor, the advisor may indirectly or directly give him a check for a disclosed amount, or help the owner or the owner's family with any financial needs.
