“What is behavioral health and how it connects to leaders and leadership?”
Behavioral health is a term that covers the full range of mental and emotional well-being--from the basics of how we cope with day-to-day challenges of life, to the treatment of mental illnesses, such as depression or personality disorder, as well as substance use disorder and other addictive behaviors according to the Carolinas Health Care System. Behavioral health with a better understanding means how we deal with the challenges of life on a day to day basis, and whether or not we have certain reactions for everything. One would believe that behavioral health connects with leaders in many different aspects. A leader is someone in a sense who can deal with the challenges

We have leaders here at Clark Atlanta University who do everything in their power to make sure students are graduating on time, and receiving the education that they deserve. Although leadership on the other hand is defined as the state of being a leader. A person has to possess certain qualities to have the leadership skills that others have. With leadership and behavioral health , if someone was dealing with difficult circumstance you as a leader with those leadership qualities can help the person benefit in a good way. Also it is connected with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that “leads” public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. Anyone can be a leader and have leadership skills, it take a wise one to see the connection between behavioral health and being a leader of anything a person puts their mind to. Ke’Dazia and I are both leaders of residence halls as President and Vice President and with those

Leadership is often described as the behavior of an individual when directing the activities of a group of people with a shared goal (Al-Sawai, 2013). It can be difficult to examine leadership in the context of health care, because research and theories of leadership were created in a business environment. These leadership styles are then applied in a health care framework, which has its own unique complexities (Al-Sawai, 2013).
As groundwork for this project, a review of the literature was conducted to identify specific leadership styles, attitudes, behaviors and practices that represent effective leadership in school-based health centers and/or for implementation of mental health quality initiatives. Initially, a broad computerized search of Pubmed, CINAHL, and Scopus using the search terms leadership AND (“school based health clinic*” OR SBHC*) returned no results. A narrower search limited to full text research articles since 2006 using the search terms ( "leadership styles" OR "leadership theories" OR “transformational leadership”) AND ( "mental health services" OR “substance abuse” OR “substance use” OR “drug abuse” OR “drug addiction” OR “drug use”
Leadership is being able to direct or guide other people by either your own actions or by actually guiding them into the right direction (Acumen). Inspiration to be a leader might come from many different areas like your family, friends, peers, or even teachers. My inspiration didn’t really occur to me until I started attending college in August 2013. In all actuality I never even thought of how to be a leader until I was in Mrs. Moore’s Perspectives class. I now have a desire to be a great leader, and the inspiration has come from Mrs. Moore, and my family. I am the first to attend college out of my family, so in a away I have already started leading my siblings in the right direction. Being a leader means inspiring others to pursue their dreams, and aspirations and helping throughout the journey to success. Being a leader has nothing with authority or being able to tell other what, and how to do things, it’s about having people who look up to you and want to follow your example.
A behavioral intervention plan (BIP) is designed for a specific child to try to help that child learn to change her or his behavior. Once the function of a student 's behavior has been determined, the Individual Education Program (IEP) Team should develop the behavior intervention plan A behavioral intervention plan can be thought of as a plan to support the student in order to help him or her change behavior. Effective support plans consist of multiple interventions or support strategies and are not punishment. Positive behavioral intervention plans increase the acquisition and use of new alternative skills, decrease the problem behavior and facilitate general improvements in the quality of life of the individual, his or her family, and
Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
Health care management is the profession that provides leadership and direction to organizations that deliver personal health services and to divisions, departments, units, or services within those organizations (Buchbinder & Shanks, 2017, p. 2). Health care managers are crucial in terms of the development and running of a health care organization. With this said, health care managers have a variety of leadership styles available to them and it is important that when using these styles that they use them to their advantage in order to maintain positive outcomes. There are three main types of leadership style: democratic leadership, pacesetting leadership, and coaching style leadership. Although there are several types of leadership styles, after taking the leadership style quiz offered by Kendra Cherry a
Does leadership make a difference? One could venture to say that the answer depends on the perspective of the leader or the organization. This is a question that often irked me when it comes to professional sports. A team has a poor season and the coach is fired. For example, former Eagles coach Andy Reid will lead the Kansas City Chiefs to the playoffs this year while his replacement, Coach Chip Kelly, was fired last month by the Eagles (Ducey, 2015). From the organization’s perspective, it would appear that leadership had a significant impact on organizational performance. Eagles CEO stated that he “spent the last three seasons evaluating the many factors involved in our performance as a team. As I watched this season unfold, I determined
I thought it was better to define what behavior therapy is, in order to better understand it. Many publications have their own interpretation but the common theme is, behavior therapy is observing a patients behavior from a therapeutic approach. Behavior therapy has a variety of techniques that include reinforces, conditioning techniques, behavioral modification and systematic desensitization. These techniques are used to change the undesirable behavior.
What does leadership mean in the context of educational leadership? Many definitions of leadership in education co-exist, attesting to the complexity and multi-faceted phenomena of the concept (Elwell & Elikofer, 2013). Leadership is one of the most observed and least understood organizational and psychological areas of study. Despite volumes of research and numerous theories, no one theory of leadership emerged as the sole predictor of the success of educational leaders. The current body of knowledge about leadership consists of narrow definitions of leader effectiveness that are disconnected from their context (Latham, 2014). Educational leadership influences and affects every dimension of the educational process from the
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
According to the Facts and Numbers page on the National Alliance of Mental Illness website, "One in four adults--approximately 61.5 million Americans-- experience mental illness in a given year. One in fo17-- about 13.6 million-- live with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder." (Facts and Numbers). Throughout history people with mental illness have been perceived as lesser than those without mental illness, and thus these people have an innumerable amount of difficulties and challenges to overcome compared to their counterparts with the benefits of pristine mental health. In The Mad Among Us by Gerald N. Grob, he describes the change of the ways of caring for the mentally ill starting from the beginning of institutionalization in the early eighteenth century (Grob 17) to the idea that serious disorders cannot be cured, but alleviating the symptoms "should be able to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of natural self-healing processes." (Grob 311). The lies of people with mental illness are as diverse as the disorders they live with. Unimaginable obstacles are waiting around every corner for people with mental illness.
Leadership, without doubt, is a significantly important function of management. It helps to aggrandize efficiency and to fulfil an organization’s goals. Leadership is the ability of a manager to induce the subordinates to work with confidence, determination, courage and zeal. It is also defined as ability to influence a group towards the realization of a goal. Leaders should have the capability of developing future visions, and to drive the organizational members to want to attain the visions. This paper states my points in which I duly believe, justifies the importance of an outstanding leader in any organization.
Many people associate leadership with a specific job title or form of power within an organization. However, through personal experience, I have concluded that leadership can come in many forms and position as well as from multiple sources of roles and job titles both with and without power. Based on the definition of leadership, anyone can be considered a leader as long as they have the ability to influence people to achieve a particular result or goal which benefits the organization or group as a whole. Individuals with a secure sense of self and understanding, acceptance of diversity within an organization tend to be the strongest leaders that not only make others want to follow, but they also encourage other leaders to gravitate to their
