The Battle of Coral Sea began in May of 1942. This battle was the first in the war that used aircraft carriers against one another. This five day battle resulted with a new battle strategy; carrier vs. carrier. The Battle of Midway lasted 4 days in June of 1942 and resulted in a success for the United States. The Guadalcanal Campaign began August 7 of 1942 and lasted 6 months and two days. The offensive campaign resulted in a victory for the Allies, and was the first of offensive campaigns against Japan's forces. The Battle of Tarawa was a major part of the Gilbert and Marshall Islands Campaign and lasted three days, ending on November 23, 1943. The United States defeated their enemy forces in this battle, using their strategy of island-hopping. …show more content…

On December 7th of 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy performed a military strike against Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, pushing the United States to make the decision to join WWII. The Pacific Theater refers to the significant theater of war between the Japanese and the Allies, especially the United States. The End Japanese forces surrendered in 1945. The United States used their strategy of dropping atomic bombs on the Japanese cities Hiroshima (August 6, 1945) and Nagasaki (August 9, 1945), which lead to the surrender of Japan and, eventually, the end of WWII. The Battle of Iwo Jima lasted from February 19 to March 26, 1944. This battle was said to have been one of the fiercest battles of the Pacific Theater, and led to yet another victory for the United States. The Battle of Okinawa lasted from April 1 to June 15.
