The Baroque and Classical musical periods have made a huge impact on classical music today.
Still many people all over the world have a great appreciation for this period in music history. At a first glance, the Baroque music period and the Classical music period seem to be very much alike. However, by looking deeper into these time periods, and understanding them better the differences between the two becomes more distinct. The Baroque musical period began after the Renaissance in approximately
1600 and lasted until about 1750. Baroque style was the leading force in Western European art music up until when the Classical time period gained popularity starting from 1750-1820.

The instruments in the orchestra was one of the important differences between the two time periods.
During the Baroque time period the composers such as (Bach, Vivalid, Monteverid, Handel) were the first to establish multiple instrumentation and the use of complex harmonies in their compositions. Baroque saw the creation of tonality, because of the more elaborate musical ornamentation and the newly developed instrumental playing techniques. These techniques allowed for much more improvisation. Unlike the Classical time period were they musicians were known to follow the music rather than improvising. The Baroque music period was complex with layered melodies known as polyphonic. However, the classical time period emphasized on form. Most musical pieces of the Baroque time period expressed one mood throughout the whole piece. As Opera gained popularity composers began experimenting with complex musical ornamentation for the voice. The voice was the one exception to the unified mood.
