When I was 6 years’ old all I ever did was play in my yard. Especially on a beautiful summer day like this one. I was doing what any six-year-old would running, jumping, and playing (barefoot I might add). I don’t know about you but where I am from in Indiana we have these plants called sticker bushes, it looks like a little patch of crab grass with pointy needles in it. Unless you have come across one before or have a history of injury due to said plant you are likely to not notice them. I being the naïve six-year-old I was thought nothing in nature could hurt me, boy was I wrong. Crowfoot was a Blackfoot chief in 1830, by the Belly River in now southern Alberta. He was born in the Blood tribe of the Blackfoot Confederacy, which at the time also included the Blackfoot and Piegan tribes. As a baby he was given the name Astohkomi (Shot Close) When he was five his father was killed by Crow warriors and within a year Crowfoot’s mother married Akay-nehka-simi (Many Names), a member of the Blackfoot tribe. When Crowfoot was a teen he was trained as a warrior, During a raid for horses on a Crow camp, he was wounded in the fight, for which he was given his adult name Isapo-muxika (Crowfoot), a name that had been owned by a relative killed several years earlier.

On a summer afternoon in my hometown of Hemet, California is like every other day in the summer where everyone is in their houses cooling off or in their pools. When standing in the middle of the street in front of my house I notice four trees in the front yard. Two of the four trees stand on the right side of the yard. An Elm tree twenty feet from the road the height of a two-story house with an unfinished project of a tree house up in the branches from years ago. And an apricot tree that is the height of a one-story building that is about 35 feet from the road with branches easy to climb up. On the left side of the yard I see two more trees; an old nectarine tree half the size of a one-story house about ten feet from the road, and a lemon tree about 30 feet from the road that is about the size of a one-story house. I chose to remix my cultural artifact which was my pointe shoes. I remixed my pointe shoes by creating a website about them and dance in general. I wanted to remix my cultural artifact because dance is a major part of my life and I thought it would be the best project to remix. The website has personal elements to it but is also includes more general facts and dance information. I included information about my dancing experience as well as basic information about dance and pointe shoes. I decided that it would be useful to include information for where I am currently dancing at Michigan State and other dance studios that are around campus.

Looking back on the Native American time period, I've come to a realization that the way all of them adapted to life with how they lived was much different then than how things are today. Going from the way they talked, how they dressed, how education was done, to how they live everyday, etc. I think it's all somewhat different with how people are today in those categories. But some of those things that the Native Americans were used to doing everyday, were being forced to change by different kinds of people. The Native American experience was a genocide act.
One of the most well-known urban legends told is the story of Bigfoot. Much of the research has shown that there are several names assigned to the mammoth ape. According to Napier (1973), Bigfoot would be the creature found mostly in Northwest America, Sasquatch would be a creature named in British Colombia, the 49th parallel in the north-west states of America and Northern California, and the Abominable Snowman, or the Yeti would be the creature named in the Himalayas. Of course, “Wild Man” and “Savage” have also been names used to identify the creature. There’s been thousands of sightings across the world, but there have also been many misidentifications where those who think they have seen Bigfoot have really just seen an ordinary animal or person. Arment (2006) states an individual’s perception may color the eyewitness account. Such misidentifications include: hermits, fugitives, refugees, bears, gorillas, and simply people making up stories or rumors. In addition to sightings, there have been photos, videos, movies, and TV shows that strongly indicates the possibility of the existence of this creature. Though there is much evidence from sightings, myths, and recordings that Bigfoot exists, there is also much proof that it could all be a hoax. Incorrect sightings have led skeptics to argue over the existence of this being stating Bigfoot is really just a fable. So one has to ask oneself, does Bigfoot really exist or is it just another urban legend?
