Background of the Study
Profitability is the main objective of all businesses. Business will not be able to survive if there is no state of providing a financial gain. Hence, it is especially significant to know and calculate the present and past profitability and forecasting future profitability. Income and expense are being used in computing in computing profitability. Income is what was being produced from the activities of the business. For instance, if raw materials and end products are produced and sold, income is achieved. On the other hand, expenses are the expenditure of assets accumulated or depleted by the activities of the business. For instance, seed corn is an expense of a farm business since it incurred in the production process (Hofstrand, 2009).
Night markets as studied by Ishak et al. (2012) are collection of provisional outdoor stores by entrepreneurs where products like street foods, fruit or second hand clothes are laid out to be sold. The local residents’ needs were the reason why night market arose and became popular to buy things that are needed for their homes within the area of their residences. Consequently, entrepreneurs used this as a reason to provide an alternative shopping choice. Additionally, the customers enjoyed the dynamic environment, various options of unusual cooked cuisines and fresh veggies at fair price because of the welcoming and serene atmosphere that it provides. Accordingly, the factors that accorded to the continuous progress of the night market were the ambiance, the serenity, and the delightful foods. Night markets in another view, as studied by Huang et al. (2009) have their cultural distinctiveness especially in oriental societies. It reflects local heritages, functions to meet demands of locals on consumption and leisure, and provides local residents and outside visitors with special services for their evening shopping. In a sum, collecting cuisine, various cheaper products, time flexibility, convenience, casualness, and local culture representation are characteristics of night markets.
