The media in today’s society has a great impact on how we all perceive the world. We are the type of people who like to be motivated and influenced by what we watch. Most of us have no idea that the media has persuaded our beliefs on people’s cultures. For my research I am going to focus on the film Babel on the ways cultures are being represented and how these representations are harmful. I will use Content analysis and Semiotic analysis for each example to get to the overall picture covering the Ideological analysis. He does not want to misrepresent cultures, but teach others about the other cultures. He decided to film this movie from each of the minorities’ countries. This film was filmed in four different countries, it uses six different languages which allow us to read the subtitles. As I focused on Inarritu’s interview responses I noticed that he contradicts himself. He wants to show us the point of views of others, but later on he states that the film confirms what the average American has already been able to experience through the T.V screen without crossing the border. A review I found by Evanston_dad “I am in the minority on this film. I found it to be tedious and exhausting, and the effort I put into sticking with it far outweighed any sense of closure I received from it.” We can tell this person was not a big fan of the movie since they rated 6 out of 10. They felt that the film was too long and slow with no sense in it. However, towards the end of the review he discusses on the director “There's no nuance here; Inarritu pounds his message into you. For example, he obviously feels strongly about the mistreatment of illegal immigrants, especially those from Mexico, but instead of engaging in an intelligent debate about the topic, he sets up such an implausible, not to mention one-sided, scenario in this film that you can't help but agree with him.” People can feel this movie only focuses on one side of the story, this is different from what the director intended to do. There are many ways one can interpret this movie. Some might feel there is no hope and some find it heartbreaking to see how the minorities are
