Babe Ruth, although encountering many struggles, is considered to be one of the greatest Major League Baseball players of all time. Ruth was a troubled kid, who subsequently got sent to a private school, Ruth was discovered and signed to play baseball in the Big Leagues, and so the story begins.

George Herman Ruth Jr. was born on February 6, 1895 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was one of the eight children, six of whom died during infancy, that were birthed by Kate and George Ruth Sr. His parents worked long hours so George became a very troubled kid. He often skipped school, and caused lots of trouble. Ruth was crowned as the number one hardest partying drunk who has ever played pro sports. He would stay out partying all night then wake up and make it to his game and still play with jacked up on a heartburn inducing foods and hard liquor. One time during a game, he punched an umpire. He has become frustrated by umpire, Brick Owen’s calls that he punched him behind his left ear before being dragged away by police. This cost him about a $100 fine. Ruth was also arrested for reckless driving. He was caught speeding in Manhattan and arrested, resulting in spending the night in jail. He was released 45 minutes after his game had already started. He wore his uniform under his suit and had a motorcycle escort who got him there just in time to catch the game. Ruth was a well-known ladies man. He had a different girl almost everyday of his life, which led to many problems. In 1922, Ruth was faced with a $50,000 lawsuit, filed on behalf of Dolores Dixon, a teenage employee at the Manhattan Department Store. She had claimed that she became pregnant by Ruth. Ruth ended his career after 22 seasons, 10 world series, and 714 home runs. The following year, he was one of the first five players conducted into the sport’s hall of fame. After he was conducted into the hall of fame, Ruth noticed he was becoming sick. He had discovered a tumor in his neck, which later became cancerous. Ruth did not give all the way up on baseball though. He would make appearances at baseball charity events. On August 24, 1942, ruth hit a home run off Walter Johnson at Yankee Stadium in a charity game for army-navy relief in front of a crowd of more than 69,000 people. The ball actually curved foul, but Ruth rounded the bases and tipped his cap anyways. Ruth’s last public appearance came on July 26, 1948 when he attended the premiere of “The Babe Ruth Story,” the film starring William Bendix as Ruth. During the premiere of the film Ruth left and returned to the hospital. On August 16, 1948, Ruth died from throat cancer in New York City. For two days following, his body lay in state at the main entrance to the Yankee Stadium, and tens of thousands of people stood in line to pay their last respects.
