Trevor Riley Mrs. Schlatt Academic English 4 5 October 2017 Axeman Murders of New Orleans 1918-1919 For over a decade, a man recognized as the axeman murdered numerous people, and was never apprehended. The murder of Joseph and Catherine Maggio sniped the attention of many. All of the suspects have unfortunately been released because there has not been sufficient evidence to prove their guilt. However, the investigation led to affirm points to one suspect, a frightening guy named Joseph Mumfre. A young couple, Joseph and Catherine Maggio, were the axeman’s first victims in nearly a decade, and this was the beginning of another killing spree. In the middle of the night on May 22, 1918, Jake and Andrew Maggio were sleeping in their rooms until Jake heard loud groaning echoing from his neighbor's house, also his brother, Joseph’s house (New Orleans). Then, the two brothers went to go check on their brother, and what caught their eye was a panel removed from the door, which wasn’t removed when they were there for dinner the night before. After they saw the panel removed, they walked cautiously into Joseph’s room and were astonished to find blood everywhere, with (New Orleans). All the evidence that was found is very unclear, but the next suspect in the murder is Joseph Mumfre. After looking at all the evidence and how the mystery really unfolded, Joseph Mumfre is the first and only realistic suspect we will look at. The evidence thus far all points to him, and it is not a coincidence that the murders stopped after Mumfre was shot dead. Mumfre was in and out of jail, all during the course of the killings, and all the evidence, including the police, frame Mumfre for being the axeman. Now we will look into more of what the evidence shows and look at more of an

It was a normal evening in the Maloney home. Mrs. Mary Maloney sat sewing, while waiting for her husband to return home after an involved day as a police officer. Around 5 o’clock Mr. Maloney returns home with shocking news and… Bang! …a leg of lamb hit over his head and Mr. Maloney falls to the ground dead. All evidence and theories, point to Mrs. Maloney being the killer of her husband, but why? Mrs. Maloney did not kill her husband out of anger after the recent marriage incident, but she did it as a result of mental anguish, self defense and trauma inflicted upon her by her husband. All these events explain exactly why Mrs. Maloney murdered her husband out of reasonable measures.

The town of Halifax in West Yorkshire had never experienced such a manhunt in it’s history (Glover 3). During a short, but long lasting in feeling, time period in late November through early December in the year 1938, the town of Halifax underwent a period of mass hysteria. A mysterious “slasher” hid in the shadows and lunged out with a razor blade at people who passed by (Halifax Slasher).
It was Sunday October 8th about 8:45pm, when Daniel “Peg Leg” Sullivan went to visit the O’Learys’ house only to find out they were asleep. So Sullivan walked across the street to Thomas White’s house and sat down to lean against the fence. The wind was very strong that night and there was a party at the McLaughlin’s to celebrate the arrival of a relative from Ireland. Sullivan decided to go home when he noticed a fire in the O’Learys’ barn. He started shouting, “FIRE!” as loud as he could and ran to the barn to save the five cows, horse, and calf inside. As he did, his peg leg got stuck in the floorboards. He hung onto the calf as they made their way out (13, 14,15).
This morning October 8th 1965 at about 5:13 am the body of Bob Sheldon was found lying next to the park fountain he was seen to be in a pool of blood. His body had a single stab wound in his back which had pierced his heart, killing him instantly. Supposed eye witnesses say that a small boy who was a member of the "Greaser Gang" attacked and killed Bob and intended to kill the rest of them. Cherry Valance claims that she was walking with Johnny and Ponyboy after the movies when Bob approached them in his car and threatened the two them. Be on the lookout for the two boys with the description of one that has long light-brown hair, green eyes, and is about five feet tall and another has long jet-black hair, large black eyes, and is about four feet six inches. The first one is considered to be Ponyboy and the second one is considered to be Johnny. The two are now on the run they were last seen at a party with Dally. Investigators report that Dally says he has no idea where these two are but he thinks that they are going to Mexico. A woman was taking a walk through the park and discovered the bloody corpse she said “I was hesitant at first because I thought they were watching me, but I gained some courage and called 911” the friends that were their helping Bob bully the 2 said they were there during the homicide, but decided not to call the police because they were drunk and they were scared after seeing him dead. They said, the murderer was a 16 year old boy named Johnny Cade.
There are multiple serial killers and merciless murderers throughout the history of the United states. Yet the most intelligent and intriguing of them was the Zodiac Killer. The mystery of his personality has been supported by the fact the killer was never caught by law enforcement agents. Despite joined efforts between the police and the FBI, the Zodiac killer managed to foil their efforts for a very long time. Nevertheless, the personality and image of the killer became the nominal cast that caught huge public attention and transcended into the influence of movie villeins. Given the relevance of the topic, John Doe, a former detective of the case who wishes to remain anonymous, describes in detail the mystery that surrounds the Zodiac Killer’s
What is murder; the killing of a human being by a sane person, with intent, malice aforethought (prior intention to kill the particular victim or anyone who gets in the way) and with no legal excuse or authority. In those clear circumstances, this is first degree murder. By statute, many states consider a killing in which there is torture, movement of the person before the killing (kidnapping) or the death of a police officer or prison guard, or it was as an incident to another crime (as during a hold-up or rape), to be first degree murder, with or without premeditation and with malice presumed. Second degree murder is such a killing without premeditation, as in the heat of passion or in a sudden quarrel or fight. Malice in second degree murder may be implied from a death due to the reckless lack of concern for the life of others (such as firing a gun into a crowd or bashing someone with any deadly weapon). Depending, on the circumstances and state laws, murder in the first or second degree may be chargeable to a person who did not actually kill, but was involved in a crime with a partner who actually did the killing or someone died as the result of the crime.
Allowing murderers to literally squeeze the life out of their victims strangling is a very common and intimate form of murder as the level of intimacy that arises from being so close to their victims as they live their last moments appeals greatly to those perpetrators who are sexually propelled to strangle their victims while raping them. It is speculated that victims of serial killers who strangled them are largely rapped by their killer as they bask in the intimacy of the moment of death. However, this does not discount that in several homicide cases asphyxiation occurs not for the intimacy of the act but as a means of opportunity as no other means of weapon are at hand. Yet, for a meager group of murderers strangling seems to be an intrinsic
Third degree murder is when someone kills a person not intentionally, meaning that they didn’t physically end the person's life. This can be interpreted in many ways that many people feel is unacceptable because the person is not killing an individual with their bare hands. For example, drug dealers they sell people a whole bunch of different substances that makes a person feel good and helps them relax, but if overused the individual could overdose and it could kill him or her. Many people think that if it is the person’s decision to take the substance knowing what it could do to them then they should take the consequence for what happens. The punishment for this murder is a few years in prison and sometimes could be extended depending
In the quiet New York town of Savona, Eric Smith, age thirteen, intercepted four year old Derrick Robie on his way to a park recreation program and offered to show him a shortcut. Hesitatingly, Derrick set off with Eric. He never made it to the park. That same day the little boy's savagely beaten body was discovered outside the park area (Seifert 98).
