Autonomous Cars Are Bad

Imagine being the only human controlled car on the road surrounded by heartless, autonomous, automobiles, scary right? Autonomous, or self driving, cars are on the rise, but they may be more dangerous than initially thought. One hundred percent of cars on the road as of right now are human driven (Peterson, 38). A sudden addition of autonomous cars could seriously harm the safety of our roads. Due to factors such as, lack of human reasoning, human-autonomous driver interaction, and complications with legal affairs and insurance, it is not reasonable to implement self driving cars into traffic as it could put many drivers, passengers, and civilians, at risk despite safety measures taken by automotive manufacturers. It is obvious that machinery does not have human instinct and reasoning. This means that autonomous cars would not be able to react to a pedestrian suddenly appearing in front of it. The car is programmed to follow the laws of the road. This means that if the pedestrian were to get in the way, and the only option would be for the car to swerve and break the laws of the road, it would not swerve (Peterson, 37). Even though this …show more content…

No one knows how autonomous cars will react with human driven cars and vice versa. It is certain that not everyone will give up their cars for autonomous ones. Also, it is unreasonable to think that a law would be passed for normal vehicles to be restricted. Say in the future autonomous and normal cars are mixed, what could happen? Well, since self driven cars are run by a computer, system errors are inevitable (Peterson, 28). These glitches could result in catastrophic accidents, and if human drivers are involved it would only increase casualties. Some testify that the computers will glitch proof, although, this is virtually impossible as glitches develop randomly and on their
