Autism. A mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts. Although this may be the definition of Autism, there is way more to it. People with Autism don’t just have these characterized setbacks but many other attributes that positively set them apart from the non-disabled. It is estimated that every one in sixty eight children are diagnosed with autism. Kids can be first diagnosed with Autism when the are only eighteen months old. Although the most common age to be diagnosed with Autism is from two years to three years of age. Autism is 4.5 times more common in boys then girls. Meaning one in forty-two boys are diagnosed with Autism and one in one hundred eighty-nine girls are diagnosed with Autism. Studies show …show more content…

Asperger’s is a type of autism many people are born with. Changes in the brain are responsible for many of the Asperger’s syndrome symptoms. Symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome vary depending on the person. Children with Asperger’s syndrome tend to have an obsessive focus on a narrow topic of interest. People with Asperger’s Syndrome are unable to read facial expressions and body language which makes it hard for them to recognize other people’s feelings. This is why it is common for people with this disorder to struggle socially. It is common for people with this condition to avoid eye contact when speaking with others. Although Asperger’s syndrome and its factors that distinguish it from other Autism Spectrum Disorders are unknown, no clear pathology common to individuals with Asperger’s syndrome has emerged.
