Imagine not having the government on your side, not being able to fit in with the people around you. Imagine going through slavery. Not being able to go to the same school as the person who lived across the street from you. That would be horrible right? Imagine not having the same equity as someone who is no better than you in anyway. What if its only because of your race? What is you had a community where you finally feel safe and you have family and friends that live all around you, but still not in the best living environment. Then Imagine having that all taken away from you and not having anywhere to go and cannot say anything to stop it. The Government of Nova Scotia impacted residents of Africville in a negative way. The city placed a dump in their community and left them in an unhealthy living environment, forced many people to leave family and friends, and left everyone with only memories good and bad.

He lost his arm due to extreme circumstances but never used his handicap as an excuse to quit. His story is one that began simple enough, but it changed into one to be told for generations to come. For a typical student attending a four-year college, they usually have to take out loans to attend the school. But, students who are athletes can get up to a full ride to the college of their choice if their sport has a team there. For an NCAA athlete, their schooling is paid for in turn for the student to be a dedicated athlete...

This quote from the book best describes the problem of athletic scholarships as they exist today. Instrumental constraint is basically the control, or constraint of material rewards and resources, or in this case room and board or extra spending money for athletes receiving scholarships based on their athletic performance. The whole point of athletic scholarships are to free the already over taxed athlete from worrying about getting a full time job in order to pay for classes, spending money, and

“A scholarship doesn't equal cash in a player's pocket. Even with any type of scholarship, college athletes are typically dead broke” (Hartnett). Being an athlete in college is as demanding as a full time job. They also have to put the time in to be a full time student as well. That is a lot of time they have to commit for their university. Additionally if the student does not come from a wealthy family or a family willing to give them money, he or she may also have to add on a part time job on to that if they ever want to do something fun on a day off or get some food from somewhere other than the dining halls.
