When we are barely growing up, we usually look up to our parents because we believe they are there as the role of our parents to guide us and teach us what is right. In to Kill A Mockingbird, the novel by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch shows his kids lessons that they will need in life to be successful. Atticus is the type of person who usually doesn’t judge people, especially if he doesn’t know he/she. Not prejudging people is the greatest life lesson Atticus taught scout. All atticus wants is for his kids to be an even better person than he is by taking into consideration of of the life lessons that he taught them. When Atticus took the case of Tom Robinson, He realized it was a difficult decision but he was up for the challenge. Tom, the man that got accused of rape had a bad reputation in the trial because he was black. even though him being from a different race didn’t bother Atticus at all. Scout finds out he is innocent once she sees all the proof and evidence that Atticus had to defend Tom. Atticus knew it wasn’t going to be easy to take the case, but what motivated him was because he knew it would be worth it by using it to give his kids a life lesson. When Atticus said “I’m simply defending a negro his name’s Tom Robinson.” It showed that he is not a judgemental person and hopes to pass it on to his kids. …show more content…

Jem becomes more mature and is more conscious of his actions. He still hasn’t matured completely but as the days go by he keeps improving and turning into a man. The way Jem reacts at the trial is a great sign that he is maturing. Scout still has a while until she turns into a responsible young women, but one way she shows she is maturing is at the end of the book when she “He had given us so much, and we gave him nothing, and it made me sad.” That’s when she realized Boo wasn’t a phantasy. She had a point knowing that Boo had put the stuff in the tree and they didn’t give him anything
