In the novel of To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch is one of the best attorneys in the town, he treats everyone equally and treats them respectfully and the town thinks highly of him. Atticus Finch had a terrific personality people would say, an example is when Atticus was told to defend Tom Robinson in a case. This was a major part that shows about his personality is because Tom Robinson is a black male accused of raping someone’s daughter. Back in the time of the Great Depression it was still a time where racism was still there. Racism was worse than it is now, this is because people had thought of colored people as animals and shouldn’t be treated as a person. He gives her a place to sleep if she stays late and also he trusts her with his children. Atticus is a man who can treat everyone with respect, even it be someone who is colored or not. Addition to him treating people with respect, he finds the good in people in the novel after the court hearing with Tom Robinson, Bob Ewell the man who claimed of seeing Tom raping his daughter, saw Atticus walking in town stopped him and then spat in his face. Instead of Atticus saying something bad about him or cursing he simply had said, “I wish Bob Ewell wouldn’t chew tobacco.” (Lee 291). This shows how Atticus even if the person can be a bad person he still wanted to treat the person with respect. As well as when one of his neighbors named Mrs. Dubose; who is addicted to morphine and tries to stop her addiction, she has always said bad things about Atticus and his children. Mrs. Dubose is always talking about Atticus is also a nigger-lover and also how his children should be more respectful. All Atticus says is that she is sick and she doesn’t know what she is saying and how she doesn’t mean it. Atticus even though people might say badly about him, in town he is the most respected because of what he does, from him being a respectful person and a person who treats everyone
