Scenario:
An old bank building is to be converted into hotel accommodation. As a consultant to the local planning office, you insist that the construction must be aesthetically pleasing, integrating well with the existing natural and built environment. You must educate the planning office and your client regarding all the building materials, detailing how they must be fit for purpose, sustainable and locally sourced where possible. It is possible to recycle the concrete blocks if they are broken down.

Compatibility
Concrete blocks are very compatible, this is due to the fact that cement is used with them and also plaster and other materials can be applied to the blocks, making concrete blocks compatible with many different materials.

Roof Tiles
Function
Roof tiles are designed to block out rain, this is because the tiles will have a ‘waterproof glaze’ ensuring that rain will not enter the home and that inside will stay dry.
Appearance
Roof tiles can be in many different colours, they can be seen as wide and relatively thin. Rooftiles are usually made from concrete, they will then have a waterproof glaze on them to ensure that they are rainproof.
Cost

Durability
Concrete roof tiles are very durable due to the fact that they are made out of concrete, they will not bend, but if there is enough force added to them, they could break into pieces. Roof tiles are designed to last a very long time and keep water out, they will not need replaced often.
