Argumentative Paper Radical Feminism Could you ever imagine in this country a man and a women being in the same room and having equal rights? This idea would be possible if all the protesting stopped and would never happen again. The idea of Feminism has shaped this country since the Seneca Falls Convention in 1838. Since that Convention it has grown and prospered into something new known as “Radical Feminism.” Radical Feminism today is out of place in society and should not be supported. If you really think about this carefully it is wrong, due to both genders have more rights of each other. There is evidence that women and men have more rights than each other so it is equal. This evidence was uncovered from (Thought Catalog), men on their 18th birthday have to enlist themselves to the government in case there is a war they may be selected to fight. Women do not have to do this act by law, but then many complain that they want to fight. More excuses come with this that radical feminists like to use such as men can fight but women can not. The drafting process should be able to be open to women. If you look at history some women were the greatest fighters in wars. Here are some examples of these women from mental floss Lise Børsum Refugee Smuggler, Barbara Lauwers: Propaganda Warrior, Annie Fox Pearl Harbor Nurse, Violette Szabo Fearless Spy, Hannie Schaft, Dutch Resistance Fighter, and Felice Schragenheim Underground Operative. Those are just some examples but there are many more besides these. Some of these excuses that radical feminists say can get really out of proportion. Feminism and the right to equality has been a long and arduous struggle for women before the Civil Rights Act. The Feminine Mystique sparked a change, questioning society, which continues today as women fight for equal treatment regardless of laws that claim for their protection. Men have always been looked upon as the leading sex. Looking back through history women have been the ones who take care of the home and children, while men are the ones who work and go to war. However in recent years there’s no doubt that women have become much more equal in the work force. Nevertheless men are still the ones who are forced to fight our wars when the time calls for it. Many think that women should be entirely equal to men having their choice to be drafted taken away but the fact is that they are physically at a disadvantage, too emotionally oriented, and the increase of female presence would have a more negative impact in the military in the way of social interactions.
Some people say that women should be in the draft because nowadays, men and women should be considered equal. With the advancement of equality in the American society, these people argue that the armed forces should not be excluded from the growing new reputation America is trying to get. Hence, those who support women being apart of the draft argue this point. According to “Update: Women in the Military”, women have become way more involved in the army (1). From this, supporters of women joining the draft argue that their involvement in the draft should also reflect on their increasing involvement in the army. However, those who are opposed women being apart of the draft argue that equality within men and women is an unrealistic mindset. This is proven in the New York Times with Catherine Rampell’s when she writes “Women earn 92.2 cents on the dollar of what men earn” (1). This is a statistic from 2011 that shows people that complete equality between men and women has still not fully been reached. Furthermore, those opposed women and the draft argue that if America has not completely reached full equality within the genders, then neither should the army. Both of these articles bring up good points about why women should either be in the draft or not in the draft.

started out as a movement for total equality for all humans, yet it has become a philosophy (largely promoted by Stanton and others) based on animosity and condemnation against men. The rise in feminism has led to (not necessarily caused) an exponential increase in discrimination against men, as many feminists blame men for the injustice against and oppression of women through out the ages, and not without cause. Women throughout the ages have been considered sub-human at best, and property as worst, little more than chattel, and while it is still true that women are still oppressed in some places of the world, in America (home of feminism, equality, and freedom) women are reversing the balance of power. Rather than moving fprward with ideals of freedom and equality, feminism has become distorted and history is repeating itself; but with a twist. Now the women are on top and men are being oppressed.
The Feminist Movement begin in the in 1848 spearheaded by the Seneca Fall Convention (Smith & Hamon, 2012). Feminism is the reaction to many year of oppression by a male dominated society. In the Feminist Movement women like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Canton Stanton desired rights, opportunities, and the identity that women deserved (Smith & Hamon, 2012). Osmond and Thorne (1993) stated that Feminist respond by expressing their desire to “develop knowledge that will further social change, knowledge that will help confront and end subordination of women as it related to the pattern of subordination based on social class, race, ethnicity, age, and sexual orientation” (p. 592). It started as an effort to bring about positive change and now it is known more for men bashing and complaining. She makes a point that feminism creates a double standard; feminists want women to have same rights as men but get angry when men do the same things. In simple terms, it is the ideology of women being equal to men and it is often misinterpreted as the belief of women being above them. In a more simple way of stating it, women rights equivalent to those of men. Before suffrage begun, women were strictly to act as women should, or what they were expected to act like. They were expected to take care of the children, cook, and clean. Not only were they supposed to do house work, but they also couldn’t vote or own any property. On August 26th, 1920, after 72 long-lasting years of fighting, and prolonged anticipation, women finally won their rights to be treated equally. Women had been living in a very restrictive society, and soon became tired of being told how they could and couldn’t live their lives. While women are gaining equal opportunities in society, they need to not diminish the importance of working together with men to form a functional society. The widespread idea of quotas needs to be analyzed. People should be accepted into college or hired for a job because they are the most qualified, not because of their sex. Society has demented feminism as a harmful dogma because it has been an excuse, almost a cop-out by women who do not want to work for their acceptance.
