Just in time for spring, the Colorado River Fair ambassadors and CEO Bruce Wilson is teaming up to invite you to enjoy this year's 43rd annual fair festivities.
Receiving more than 18,000 visitors per year, the Colorado River Fair is scheduled to take place on March 16-19 at 591 N. Olive Lake Blvd.
Since awarding five diplomatic agriculturalists $800 scholarships and selecting them as 2017 Colorado River Ambassadors, Wilson is hopeful that the group is able to encourage more Blythe residents to come out to the livestock auction and engage in exquisite art pieces inside the exhibit building.
“The children’s responsibility is to help promote the fair,” Wilson said. “The exhibit building is where people enter crafts, pictures, photos, decorated cakes, jellies and jams, just like an old county fair.”

“Since I enjoy helping out at the fair, and I had a lot of fun at the street fair, I love being able to talk to people about the upcoming fair and participating in the Christmas parade with the other ambassadors,” Cude said.
Wanting to really inspire the community to get back to its root of joining in at the agricultural exhibition and shows since Blythe is an agriculturally based town, Cude said, “I just want everyone to know how important agriculture is.”
With the fair two months and five days away, Milke is ecstatic about sharing in the civic responsibilities and showcasing her pig at the fair.
“My duty is to bring awareness about the fair and provide information about certain subjects,” Milke said. “It’s a time you can interact with others that are showing animals and you can be a role model to them and show them that one day they can be an ambassador. I will use my role to show all the younger members that they have someone to look up to, such as myself or other ambassadors, set goals for themselves to go to college and finding ways to help pay for
They say laughter is good for the soul, and fun is always good when well spent with family and friends. Imagine going around in a dizzy circle, laughing and crying at the same time because you’re dropped from over 20 feet in the air, because truth be told, what’s a fair without rides? While pigging out on fair foods and winning small prizes are fun, the fair has so much more to offer and here are a few attractions you don’t want to miss.
The World’s Fair of 1893 was set to commemorate the 400th year anniversary of Columbus’ voyage to America. When the top leaders in the US heard about the opportunity of hosting the fair, they quickly showed their interest. The main cities that showed interest were New York,...

The viewbook was compiled by the Architectural Commission for the fair, with the text by Allen D. Albert, an honorary secretary, and forward by Rufus C. Dawes, the president. The book, approximately nine by twelve inches, and consisting of 64 pages of vibrant images of the fair, depicts the major buildings, exhibits and attractions. These images are mostly watercolors, sometimes enhanced photographs or cartoons. Th...
Burnham and his partner, John Root were chosen to be the lead articles on the World’s Fair project. However, not too long into the beginning of the construction of the fair John Root dies, leaving Burnham all on his own. Not to mention the untimely death of his partner, but Burnham also faced many obstacles within the construction of the fair. Faced with many challenges such as union strikes, hazardous weather and numerous construction injuries and death Burnham had little hope for success. However, his strife did not end there as he was also faced with a great economic decline that plummeted him into a debt. Despite the many tragedies Burnham and his team encountered they were determined able to discover a new attraction that would surpass all others — the Ferris wheel. Though this new attraction leads to the near end of completing the fair, Burnham is still faced with the challenge of boosting the fair's attendance and paying off all his debt. However, with the Ferris Wheel in tow in 1893 Burnham completes construction and opens the fair. Which became a huge success as its revenue was more than enough to pay off all his debt. Burnham and the 1893 Chicago's World fair were both a success and changed
The American Dream! The vision that gets sold that a life in the US is a wonderful dream! For many undeveloped countries around the world, the United States is seen as the land of the opportunity. The land where hard work will be rewarded and all goals can be achieved. However the real United States is not as wonderful as it seems for an immigrant, specially an illegal immigrant. It is no doubt minorities in the United States are discriminated and somehow targeted. Lets take for example the popular Arizona Senate Bill 1070, better known as SB 1070. The law became so controversial and popular at the same time, multiple states adopted its own version of it. The goal? “Make neighborhoods safe” by deporting all illegal immigrants (Eagly). Mass
Ulysses Grant fought in many bloody historic battles but could not stand the sight of blood. Ulysses Grant was the 18th president of the United States and he made our country a strong powerful nation. He was a commanding general and he led the Union army to victory in the American civil war. He helped revolutionize America and gain rights for blacks by helping to create the 15th amendment. Our country thought that he really helped end all the inequality in our country and make a stronger nation. Ulysses Grant helped the passage of the 15th amendment which led to African American voting rights, everyone being more equal, slaves gathering and electing leaders to represent them, and African American freedom.
Hi folks, thanks for the response to my previous blog. However, my slothful ways have caught up to me and I need to complete this blog that’s become a few weeks overdue for the Minnesota State Fair. Although, I enjoyed my time at the Minnesota State Fair, although being worn down and tired of hordes of people, I decided not to travel to the Renaissance Fair the following day. However, The Minnesota State Fair was delightful and was able to partake in the music, the culture, and the delicious food. Although my dental regimen was not on par for the toothache that started after eating those sweet delectable cookies. I will explain later in the blog, certainly read further on a few tips for the 2016 Minnesota State Fair.
Over the weekend a buddy and I headed over to the Sherwood Forest Renaissance Faire in McDade. Located within Bastrop County, the natural beauty of Elgin's wooded areas perfectly evokes feelings of an older time. Now in its 7th year, the fair has quickly grown to become one of the largest events of its type in the state of Texas, touting over 40 stage acts and 130 vendors.
Beauty pageants that involve children are a booming industry and growing fast in popularity. This is partially because of television shows like Toddlers and Tiaras and Living Dolls, which glorify pageants that threaten the innocence of childhood. According to Lucy Wolfe, “in 2011, three million children participated in pageants across the country” (454). With so many children, some as young as six months old, partaking in pageants and countless more aspiring to be pageant princesses, a closer look needs to be taken at the practices that are used to prepare them for the show. Often working long hours, not only prepping for the pageant but also performing in it, the children have no laws protecting them from being harmed or exploited.
Every person has wondered about something - whether it be a person, place, thing, law, or anything that someone can think about. They ask questions both rhetorical and actual to themselves, and usually make it a mission to answer these questions. Some of the biggest questions have something to do with culture and religion. One of the most major questions of all time - to what extent does an individual have control over the outcome of his or her life? There are many different opinions on this topic.
The Chicago world’s fair in 1893 was bustling with people from all walks of life. There were farmers from Nebraska, belly dancers from Algeria, and there were people from New York who came to see if the fair was what they thought it would have been if it had been held in their state. Through the eye of the spectators the fair was a big success and there had been few problems that occurred prior to the fair opening. However, Erik Larson’s book, Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America, brings attention to the problems that occurred prior to the opening as well as ones that happened while the fair was open. With all the problems that the contractors faced while building the fair, it was a miracle that the fair opened and was successful.
Have you ever had to make a decision in your life? I’m pretty sure we all have, the decision can even be what you ate for breakfast in the morning. Robert Frost wrote a poem about a man who has to make an important decision. In the poem “The Road Not Taken”, by Robert Frost, he states, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference” (Woods). To me taking the road less traveled by means, doing something on your own. It means not following a crowd, it means doing something unique. It can be hard to go your own way, but that is what Robert Frost is talking about. Everybody should go the path is right for them, not the one that many other people have gone down. There are many examples of people taking the unexpected path, I have gone through a path many people have never seen before, so have
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
