Cautious parents want to protect their children from any possible risks, so it’s time to inject a dose of reality into the gossip-driven debate that is vaccines. There was a time when a new vaccine was introduced to the world and it was a cause for celebration. However, despite their success and having saved millions of lives, vaccinations still engender small groups to be sceptical and vocal about their concerns on the detrimental effects on health. However, it wasn't just the painful jabs that concerned this mother about her 1 year old daughter's shots. "Everywhere I go, someone's talking about the danger of vaccines," she says. "There are mums posting about their kids' side effects on just about every online parenting forum. The other day I had coffee with two friends, and one of them said she wasn't vaccinating her kids. I can't help but wonder: Should I really be injecting a healthy child with these things?" It’s very easy to understand why vaccines often scare some people – getting vaccinated means getting injected by a needle filled with fluids we can’t even pronounce the names of. In fact, when you break it down like that, most medical procedures sound terrifying. An appendectomy means removing one of your organs by stabbing it into multiple pieces, exercise means compellingly burning up your insides and even antibiotics are poisons that are used to kill living things inside of you. Let’s face it, both sides have risks. But, there are no big rewards with no big risks, right? Can children get long-term health problems from vaccinations? Or has this all just become one big mass
