I learned the hard way synthetic marijuana is a deadly drug; in 2012 my boyfriend and I discovered the drug, Potpourri synthetic marijuana while we both were living at his grandmother’s house, I was working at Wal-Mart and my boyfriend was going through some court issues. Now my boyfriend is on probation for evading arrest so of course you cannot do any drugs or drink. We both wanted to go to Katz to get some things, and we saw a male purchasing a pack.

Prior my boyfriend house was robbed while he was in the hospital as well and his dad died in that same year, so that’s why we were both at his grandmother’s house… Me and his mother were fixing his house up at the same time and maybe 4 or 5 months later we were back in the house.
We then would travel from North-East to 3rd ward to get the potpourri nothing else in the world mattered we just wanted the potpourri we stopped cleaning
He was then calm and we needed to get out the house we got into it with the neighbors they were threatening to call the police on us so we left went way far , far north to his grandmother’s house and he was calm , I began to think everything was getting back to normal but it didn’t . He started wanting to attack everybody in the house. Mind you his uncles, auntie, mother, and grandmother is in the house, his little cousins were there it was just bad. He got up in the middle of the night trying to attack everybody then , he pulled his pants down in front of these kids nobody could control him , nobody wanted him to go to jail . So his auntie got fed up! She called 911 and needed an ambulance as soon as possible! Ambulance came and got him .He was in the hospital and his mother was trying to discharge him while he was mentally insane, she wanted to run his life, and take his money. I began to get very depressed I thought I lost my boyfriend all because we wanted to smoke potpourri. He gets out of the hospital and he still wanted to smoke the synthetic marijuana so we knew he needed to go back he tried to open the door while it was in motion. We go home he still was trying to attack people.

There is a major debate in today’s world about the legalization of cannabis, especially, in the United States. Lately it seems that drug policy and the war on drugs has been in the headlines quite a lot. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the policies that the United States government takes against illegal drugs are coming into question. The mainstream media is catching on to the message of organizations and individuals who have long been considered liberal "Counter Culture" supporters. The marijuana question seems to be the most prevalent and pressing of the drugs and issues that are currently being addressed. Unlike marijuana, synthetic marijuana is cheaper and readily available; it can cause death, seizures, psychotic episodes, heart attacks and strokes (865-88). In fact, within the first six months of 2015, synthetic marijuana claimed the lives of 15 people, yet it is still sold at local stores (865-88). By legalizing and regulating marijuana, the U.S. can increase the safety of its citizens using the drug, restrict minors’ access to the drug and decrease the death count of citizens using similar or far worse drugs. Street dealers do not check ID’s or provide childproof packaging and carefully label products. “When we take cannabis out of the underground market and put it behind a legal, regulated counter, we create a safer, more responsible system” (865-88).

Marijuana was first introduced by the Chinese back in the B.C (before Christ) time period where it existed as a substance that carried the ability to achieve euphoria or a “high” as we refer to it today. In the early 4200s B.C. Marijuana was better known for its medicinal value where it was being used to treat rheumatism, gout and malaria (Narcocon International). Of course, society at the time was aware of the other effects marijuana had, however at the time, they primarily focused on the medication capacity marijuana contained. On June 13, 2011, I woke up a happy and excited 17 year old for it was my graduation day and that meant no more high school, no more nagging teachers, and no more drama. I met my friends and my boyfriend Andrew in the school parking lot and away we went to practice graduation. After we had practiced walking and getting our diplomas we all went to lunch and discussed what we had wanted to do with the rest of our lives. After what we had thought to be one of the last lunches together I went to Andrews house to hang out for a bit. We talked about him going away and me staying here and all of the normal stuff that applies in a relationship when one goes away. Before I left his house I asked him if he had wanted a ride to graduation, due to the fact he was in a car accident four days prior and the only vehicle he had at the moment was his motorcycle.
