Paulina Tapocsi Mrs. Owens College Writing 1 January 19, 2014 As years come, technology keeps advancing. When technology advances, things such as online dating advance as well, and when online dating advances, information allowed on each website can be altered. Throughout the years, online dating has become more popular and has become part of the social norm. Although a couple years ago, it was for those who were desperate to find companionship; it is now normal to find love over the internet. With that, we are able to see how social media is affecting the way that people communicate because they are becoming too dependent on the media. Online dating is pushing its way toward the top in society today, but people are not seeing the problem with it. When you make an online dating profile, you are able to be anybody that you want. You can alter characteristics about yourself regarding things such as height, weight, and more. You are also able to deceive people, whether it is on age, appearance, name, and you could even steal someone's identity and pretend to be someone you’re not. When you do not have direct contact with someone it is often easier to talk to people, or open up. This is why many people look to dating websites and finding people on social media websites such as Facebook. When these individuals talk to one another through social media, it then puts them in their comfort zone and they can say anything they want to without having to say it to someone face to face. This is where it becomes difficult because when feelings develop, usually one person in the relationship wants to meet in person. Complications occur because most of the time there is some sort of lie within the relationship; whether it is appearence, weight, or... ... middle of paper ... ... online happens everyday, but taking years upon years to meet up with one another, if you meet up at all, is where the problem comes in. When you are unable to connect with someone on a personal level, you are not able to have a relationship at all, and real human contact is a necessity. In conclusion, it becomes very apparent that social media takes away a lot of human contact. Too many people are becoming comfortable talking behind a screen, and are having problems with face to face conversation, which then can lead to social problems in the work field and everywhere else. Since social media is taking away a lot of human contact, and is already causing a lot of problems; as technology advances we have to worry about how social issues are going to increase as well. Social media is just going to keep effecting the way people communicate, and only in a negative way.
