United States Presidents have been continuously calling for the decline in consumption of fossil fuels for about past forty years. This paper analyzes two types of cars in different prospects and shows that the electric cars are the potential solution of the problems linked with fossil fuels and its combustion. The existence of electric cars has a long history dating back to the appearance of the first hybrid in 1972. However, the first electric vehicles have been built far before the first hybrid car. About 28% of 4192 cars produced in U.S. in the beginning of 20th century were powered by electricity. Nonetheless, after Charles Kettering created an electric starter for gasoline-powered automobiles, which did not require a hand crank to start the engine, those cars became more popular than their electric analogues. Furthermore, half of world’s population live in urban areas, where the air quality is the worst. Consequently, electric cars should be introduced as a potential solution for the issues associated with climate change, air quality, and oil dependence. United States accounting for one-fifth of global emission and being one of the biggest and leading countries with high dependence on fossil fuels should consider the fact that in a near future humanity will run out of oil. The fact that in a far future, renewable sources would be the only sources of energy proves the need of serious care in issues facing the society. Many developing countries take the U.S. as an example in many different sides. Thus, U.S. should set policy for mandating electric cars in urban areas.
