As a valet currently working for one of the largest valet companies in America, and most definitely the largest in Louisville, there are several problems on the job that require a great deal of tact to deal with. The business of controlling and storing other people’s property worth thousands of dollars is filled with security protocols to insure that nobody is allowed to damage the property of our clientele. However, an interesting question that often arises is what to do of the issue of drunken guests who wish to retrieve their cars. However, of the course of this paper I plan to first demonstrate that drunk driving is a major issue affecting not only those who drive drunk, but all of society. Secondly, I intend to explore the nebulous legal framework on which different aspects of company policies are based on. Lastly, I plan to propose a solution that will maintain the rights of drunken guests to access their property while also ensuring the safety of the local community and the image of a valet company. Someone from a different background may have difficulty identifying drunkenness if the drunkard in question is able to maintain some level of composure. Therefore, valets must be trained to identify inebriation, and it is only pertinent that they study only two sort of intoxicants; depressants and opiates. These two classes will be the most common drugs taken by drivers, the easiest to identify, and the ones with the most evidence available when detained.
