Free college education is a controversial topic to talk about in today’s world and is often viewed as a great idea. Although many people think that free college is something that will help them get the education they need, the public need to know that this idea is not the best idea and students should pay for their own college education because that will help them increase motivation, provide hard work and to be independent. More-over, colleges should not provide free education because For one the plan is badly targeted. Covering the full tuition of all college students would mean low income, middle income and upper income families. Students will get hefty subsidies, even though many middle and upper income people do not need the help. Meanwhile, many lower income students will still not have the money to cover the non-tuition costs such as transportation, books and supplies or even housing, Students in need will have to rely more on loans. In the Article “The Problem Is That Free College Isn’t Free” by Andrew P. Kelly, he states “A national push for tuition-free college would strain public budgets even further, leading to shortages rather than increased access… Enrollment will increase, further multiplying the cost of free college.” In other words, free college is not free and the cost …show more content…

First, everyone can attend. This gives the poorer students more opportunity to succeed in a higher education. However, I am opposed to free education. First, through their taxes, low income families subsidize higher income students who can easily afford to pay fees and all their needs. A second point is that spending government money on free education is often not possible or desirable when a country needs hospitals, roads and schools. As said by Andrew, “Free College isn’t free, it simply shifts costs from students to taxpayers and cap tuition at zero.” Furthermore, when people get something free, they often do not value
