Homelessness
Homelessness poses a danger not only to ourselves but also to our society and its ability to succeed. Image yourself living as a homeless person you would have to consider your whole day, where you would wake up to in the morning, which will likely shape up your whole day and determine if you can make it through or not.
Almost all of us have seen people in the street holding up signs asking for help for something to eat, more and more people are seen on the streets. “According to a survey announced in early October [2005] by USA Today, more than 727,000 individuals were homeless in 460 communities [in spring 2005]” (Romeo 1). and also world-wide and the population of homeless is increasing more and more throw out the years. Who are the Homeless? They range from children to adults and sometime even families. Why do we have people who are homeless? Poverty, lack of jobs or well-paying jobs, decline in Social services, domestic violence, and mental illness. There are many effects of homelessness on individuals. The first effects of homelessness of healthy people often encounter a lot of health gets worse from time to time because they lack attention of people such as doctors, a second effects of homelessness of personal at the time when a homeless person realizes that he/she won’t have a roof to live under forever. It is this fact of not dealing with reality that makes homeless people less able to take action, but they suffer psychologically as a result. The Stewart B McKinney Homeless Assistance Act of 1987 defined a homeless person as “an individual who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence or a person who resides in a shelter, welfare hotel, transitional program or place not ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation, such as streets, cars, movie theaters, abandoned buildings, etc.” Resent surveys conducted in the U.S. have confirmed that the homeless population in America is extremely diverse and includes representatives from all segments of society, including: the old and young, men and women, single people and families, city dwellers and rural residents, whites and people of color, employed and unemployed, able workers and people with serious health problems. The diversity among people that are homeless reflects how difficult it is to generalize the causes of homelessness and the needs of homeless people. Robert Rosenheck M.D., the author of Special Populations of Homeless Americans, explains the importance of studying homelessness based on subgroups, “each subgroup [of homeless people] has unique service needs and identifying these needs is critical for program planning and design.” Despite these diversities, homelessness is a devastating situation for all that experience it. Not only have homeless people lost their dwelling, but they have also lost their safety, privacy, control, and domestic comfort.

If someone is homeless, it is a common belief that they are more inclined to criminal activity; therefore less homelessness could equal less crime.
