Argumentative Essay Have you ever had a bad day and needed something to cheer you up? For most people that something is their pets. Pets can make your days feel a lot better if they are not so good. In news-in-health, an article states that two thirds of people have pets living in the homes. Pets are some of the best things in the world. I think that everyone should own pets. First, pets can help people with autism and other disabilities. Next, pets can help you relieve stress. Finally, pets can help you socialize with other people. First off, pets can help children that have autism. Pets are able to help autistic children by being able to calm them down after a tantrum. In the video called, Heartwarming Story, which is about
Childhood Trauma is defined as “The experience of an event by a child that is emotionally painful or distressful, which often results in lasting mental and physical effects.” (The National Institute of Mental Health). Childhood trauma is an epidemic that seems to be running its way throughout the world. Childhood trauma is a worldwide problem that can affect anyone and everyone. People tend to just try and help the problems that occur due to the childhood trauma, but not the problem itself. Many of these issues will also follow the child into their adult years and will cause negative effects. This paper will discuss the negative outcomes for a child who suffers from childhood trauma, and the negative outcomes that can follow them into adulthood.
To be an American is to be hopeful, grateful and able to pursue one’s own dreams and achieve happiness with hard work and determination without being persecuted. It is to be an individual governed by natural rights stated in the Bill of Rights. Holden the troubled boy in J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye does not embody those American ideals. He is troubled by uncertainty about the world at seventeen years of age and is bleak, and innocent about people, things, around him. Holden is not an American at heart because he doesn’t put in effort and determination nor is he hopeful or grateful.
Dog’s have been man’s best friend for thousands of years and will continue to be alongside mankind until one of the species ceases to exist. Dogs have been alongside man since they were first domesticated from wolves 15,000 years ago (Allan, 2010). This domestication has led to dogs being intertwined with everyday life for many humans. People use dogs as workers, companions, and guardians. To some people dogs are just as much a part of the family as the children. Some people even choose to have dogs instead of children. This may be for various reasons, such as cost, time availability, or just preference. Without dogs, many people’s lives would be significantly worse because pets have an impact in their owner’s life, whether this is positive or negative. Dogs can be friends and family, or dogs can be a leader to the blind. They can be used to brighten a sick child’s day, or...
For a number of children with autism having a companion dog is the difference between life and death. Methodically trained guide dogs help create an environment where autistic children are comfortable enough to live a more ordinary lifestyle. Autism spectrum disorder is a major public health problem that is the most common neurological disorder affecting 1 out of every 110 births in the US (Autism Society, 2009). ASDs can range in severity from Asperger Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism where the child can function relatively well in society, to autistic disorder or classical ASD, which severely inhibits the child’s ability to socialize or communicate (NINDS). Autism manifests itself most strikingly as impairments in formation of social relationships and communication (Adams and Burrows, 2005). “Imagine for a moment that you are in locked in a crazy room where the lights flicker, ambient temperatures fluctuate, loud music blasts your ears, and strong odors overwhelm. This is how most autistic children experience the world on a daily basis. They are deregulated for sensory data processing, and all parts of one’s body and life are affected.” - (Hollingsworth, 2011) Companion dogs for autistic children represent an invaluable resource by playing an imperative role in creating independent living skills.
Dogs are very active and energetic creatures, and need to be constantly moving. By playing with your dog, you both are receiving the exercise you both need. When you take your dog for a walk, you also are walking. Some people even train their dog to run beside them as they go for a morning jog or run. Not only are they good for your physical health, they can also be good for your mental health. Dogs are some of the most loving creatures on the planet, and they have a deep devotion towards their owners. Caring for a pet can make you feel important, and give you a sense of purpose. Your dog wouldn’t be around if you weren’t. They also can eliminate a sense of loneliness. Having a house to yourself sounds cool, but it can get lonely after a while. Get a dog or three and suddenly you feel less alone. Dogs will sit by you through movies, sleep next to you in your bed, and much more. Dogs can make you feel like a much better person
“Dogs are not our whole lives, but they make our lives whole”-Roger Caras. This means dogs aren't the center of our life, but they make our lives. They could make our lives happy, if we let them. Dogs make our lives whole, so when we get a dog they slowly improve our lives in many ways. Animals can improve our lives by comforting us when we're sad, protecting us, and teaching us valuable lessons every day.
There are many reasons to get a pet. You could choose to get a pet for a companion, or simply to add to your family. Many older folk choose to get a pet after they retire or lose their spouse so they do not feel lonely. Many young couples choose to get a pet before they opt to have children, and many families add a pet to their home for their children. The question is though, what type of pet to get? Do you get a cat, or a dog? Having a dog as a pet over a cat is much more enjoyable and beneficial to your life, specifically because of their behavior, convenience, and loyalty.
Child abuse refers to lack of care or any type of emotional, physical or sexual mistreatment that results in emotional damage or physical injury to a child or a youth. In most countries, children are considered to be anyone below 18 years of age. Child abuse can occur directly by harming a child or indirectly by failing to prevent the child from any form of harm or injury. Child abuse can occur either in the family set up, in the community set up or in an institution such as a school. Also, children can be abused by adults or by other children or by people who know them or people who are complete strangers to them.
Actually having a pet can have many positive outcomes for their children's health. “Parents don't have to worry about keeping cats and dogs in the house in terms of increasing the risks of allergies to their children” (Ownby, 2014). Proven a fact, in a home with two or more pets, 77% were less likely to develop various types of allergies than without pets.
For most people owning a dog or just a pet is a vital part of their life. There are approximately 71 million households in America that have at least 1 pet. That is around 62% of America. Even though dogs can make great companions, they are also good for a other things like emotional and physical aspects (Casciotti). Some seeing eye dogs are even able to detect seizures or help with occupational therapy and speech therapy. Some studies show that people who own dogs have reduced stress levels, lower blood pressure, less of a chance for heart disease, and less of a chance for depression (Dotson). That alone could save a lot of money or lower costs on healthcare for some people. Also pet owners, specifically dog owners, get a lot of exercise while walking or playing with their dogs which again is very beneficial.
Ever since I was younger I loved animals and I wanted to do to something with them as my career when I got older. I always had either a dog or cat when I was younger. I remember when I was about 15 or 16 years old, I lived with just my mom and I was no longer in school because I decided to quit. I had two older sisters but they were off at school in a different state so it was just me and my mom and she worked a lot of hours. So I was alone most of the times and my pets kept me company and I didn’t feel so alone or scared to be home alone. I could always count on my dogs to be there for me. I know they cannot talk to me, but them just being there when I was upset or even happy made my day go by better until my mom would come home from work. I didn’t have any friends to hang out with anymore because of not being in school.
Pets are all over the world, and a part of many people's everyday lives. After seeing my grandmas dog close to death about a week ago, it reminded me of how impacted I was when I lost a pet in the past. That’s when I realized that pets leave a very impactful mark on other people's lives. Then, I remembered not everyone has had pets in their lives due to various reasons like allergies and seeing them as dangerous. This led me to my research question; Should kids have pets in their lives? Weighing the options, I can see both sides to the question at hand. I was a child who grew up with pets by my side, but I also had been greatly harmed by one. When I was just a preschooler, I was critically bit by my own dog in the face, just inches away from a fatal vein in my neck. I still have the scar to this day, yet I still surround myself with animals everyday.
I cry easily and it has taken me a long to come to terms with that. Last trimester in a screenwriting class and during a critique of our screenplays, my turn came to read my screenplay aloud to the class. This was my first time reading to an audience and having spent all night working on it I was both apprehensive and excited. As I read, someone whispered to the person sitting beside him that my writing was terrible. I heard him and I heard the other agree. After I finished reading, the class began to critique me mercilessly saying things such as “This is terrible”, “this doesn’t make sense, and why is this here”. I wanted and expected constructive criticism, not a disrespectful interrogation. While my classmates were attacking my work, my stomach was sinking and tears began forming in my eyes. After several painful minutes one last student uttered a final condemnation. “It’s really unstructured and I think you should start a new topic”. My feelings were hurt, my heart was throbbing, and my eyes were blurred with glinting tears. I started sobbing right in front of everyone a spectacle of overwhelming emotion for everyone to see. It was at this point that I decided I was not going to hold back any emotion. These insensitive students are going to understand the implications of
Would you like to live a happy and productive life? Then get pets! I must admit it is hard to believe that domesticated animals can promote mental and physical health, but many studies have shown that they can. People who own pets have been known to lead longer and happier lives than those without them. As we get older, we become less active. The more inactive we become, the higher our risk of death. We therefore need something in our lives to keep us busy so we don’t die prematurely, and a pet is just the thing to do it. This is probably because of the companionship, exercise, and responsibility that they provide. On the other hand, you must find a pet that is compatible with you or with your life style. Maintaining good mental health is crucial for living a normal life.
Children should grow up owning a pet because there are many benefits to it. The pet will provide emotional and social support during the child’s time of development. The support received, allows the child to optimize their development because of the healthy relationship formed. Caring and being responsible for the pet will provide children with important lessons that will be useful throughout their lives. Furthermore, animals allow children to become healthier both mentally and physically. Parents should allow their child to have a pet as they grow up because it will be beneficial to the child.
