Some people say that sports are not too intense. Although the benefits of participating in competitive youth sports are not worth drawbacks because getting hurt and losing self-confidence isn't worth self-discipline and commitment. Each side has very good points, but the benefits aren't worth the drawbacks. The benefits of competitive youth sports are not worth the drawbacks because of the potential of loss of self-confidence and potential for serious injuries. Losing self confidence can cause depression within a kid and have a lack of hope. Parents are also apart of this, because they aren't encouraging their children instead they are angrily criticizing their sports performance, and the competitive environment is a part of this.In the text of yes the author states that "about one in seven parents admitted to having angrily criticized their child's sports performance.” Also the author's own daughter was playing a competitive sport and she lost self-confidence and gave up.This is …show more content…

They are getting injuries, some severe others not. Also some of the injuries, doctors used to see only in adults. In the Yes passage, the author shows , "We're seeing more young kids, and as many injuries from overuse as from acute trauma." When an athlete is hurt they can't participate in the sport. They will normally just sit on the sidelines and watch their teammates play something they want to do but can't because they are injured. How are they supposed to learn commitment and self discipline if they can't play. Another reason is injuries can cost a lot of money. If the money goes to the injuries, then its less money for sports.People say that when you play a sport you learn to have teamwork.
