In this paragraph, I will analyse the movie by using New Criticism theory. In the movie, the story revolves around the conflict between a group of ants and a gang of grasshopper (man vs. man). The theme of the movie is difference of two classes like ruling class and working class. The plot comes about in two main characters. In the first main character, Flik, the protagonist, is a worker ant and he is very creative. He builds many tools to help a colony of ants to be more convenient, but it seems his inventions usually mess things up, so the rest of the ants wants him to leave their colony. In the second main character, Hopper, the antagonist, is the leader of the grasshoppers’ gang. He is an aggressive and greedy grasshopper. He always oppresses …show more content…

The story takes time in the summer and goes into the beginning of fall. Although there are many conflicts in the movie, I think that the main conflict is the ants vs. the grasshoppers. I think that main conflict seems to be an external conflict because the ants are forced to pay tribute by the grasshoppers. I also think that there is another internal conflict in Flick struggling to believe in himself. Everyone tells him to just fit in and he struggles with being different. Climax is happened when Flik returns with his plan, the imitated bird. However, Flik’s plan is revealed. When Hopper finds out, he beats up Flik in front of everyone. As he is beating up Flick, he realizes that the only reason Hopper keeps the ants in fear is because he knows that if the ants rise up together they will overcome him and the grasshoppers. When the ants hear this, they all hold their arms and stand together to protect Flik. The resolution is the scene that after Hopper is eaten, the circus leaves. Princess Atta is crowned queen.
