West’s passion towards the disregards of normal social behavior and exaggeration of self-appraisal is possibly derived from the fusion of Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD) and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders fifth edition (DSM-5) label both APD and NPD as personality disorders. The American Psychiatric Association describes personality disorders (PD) as the association in how an individual thinks and feels about oneself and others that significantly and adversely affect how an individual function in many aspects of life (APA, 2013). As far as the research that is geared towards dissecting and understanding APD it is thought that the etiology of the disorder stems from genetic dispositions for low anxiousness, aggressiveness, impulsivity, and peer support (Credo, Widiger, 2013). The examination of the self and interpersonal self-features of APD that West possess are the following (APA, 2012): o Ego-centrism – West’s need for discussions and attention to be solely focused around his accomplishment, abilities and aspirations. o Self-esteem derived from personal gain and power – He determinedly engages in urtication’s to obtain attention by the way of belittling other people and boasting about himself (Raa5.com, 2016). He has proven that he is willing to display lavish and inappropriate behavior to assure that his personal objectives are showcased. o Lack of prosocial internal standards which manifest through the failure to uphold lawful or cultural normative ethical behavior – He deliberately goes against all social norms and encourages radical behavior to express these …show more content…

For an example prior to becoming a rap artist he was a producer who dreams where crushed time after time because no one wanted to view him as a rapper. At that time the rap industry only excepted African American men that embodied gangster mentalities and provoked anger. Although West was African American he was a college drop out with exceptional articulation that lived in the suburbs and the son of a professor. He often was ridiculed because how he would dress, his mentor and now a longtime friend has said that Hip-Hop would not except his “white boy” image (). All these characteristic was not acceptable in the culture that West was a part of and kept him in the shadows of Hip-Hop. This may have cause him anxiety towards those within his circle or even towards the music culture. He may often experience depression from the fear of acceptance or from internal beliefs that he is not acceptable. Furthermore, acceptance issues can also be rooted from his relationship with his parent’s.
