The rise of anti-intellectualism within the African-American student subpopulation is as a result of several factors connected to the behavior. Anti-intellectualism in the African-American population is because of challenges that dominate in the narrative of the success and achievement of the students. Identity and self-esteem are some the factors that hurdle in difficulties on academic achievement. The higher education administrators influence the student’s success because of the roles played in the African-American population lives. The phenomenon is through an analysis of test scores, data and the rate of degree attainment of the African-American students. The factors associated with anti-intellectualism abuse on two theories, intellectualism and leadership theories. The theories include contingency and behavioral theories which affect the intellectualism of the student populations. According to the higher education administrators, all individuals in the United States have equal opportunity to go to college and have an academic achievement. The higher education administrators use the theories as a method of examining and improving the academic achievement of the students. Antony (2014) study research highlighted that African-American students have behavioral characteristics of anti-intellectualism. The research indicated that the African-American students have the high rates of anti-intellectualism. According to the research by Antony, African-American students are misunderstood and maligned than any other group of students in the United States. A racial gap between the black and white students does exist and the difference is at approximately 20% rate in college graduations. African-American student academic underachievement is because of the racial gap and education system problem which regard to the mathematics section of the Scholastic Aptitude Test move from 189 to 201 points (Antony, 2014).
