Topic: Bullying is misrepresented in the media and its definition is unclear.

The study investigates how children view bullying and how they differentiate bullying from teasing. It was understood that students often mistake teasing for bullying and mislabel it. They reported that bullying is physical, mental, or emotional demoralization that happens repeatedly and teasing is verbal or physical aggression that is not necessarily repetitive. It was not determined at what point teasing becomes bullying but is clear that the boundary between the two actions is blurred. The study shows that boys and girls both conceptualize bullying and teasing as the same thing overall although they experience them both differently.
This source is helpful to my paper because it shows how the definition of bullying is not clear among students today and is often mislabeled. A blind spot of this source is that it never provided a solution about at which point teasing becomes bullying and vice versa. Another blind spot is that it does not target adults, and my paper will focus on bullying in the media, which is run by adults.

This chapter focuses on the differences in how Columbine High School was portrayed in the media and how the school actually was. According to reports, there was a large polarization between the popular students and the outcasts and there were also reports that bullying was prevalent in the school, based on the claims from a few students. In reality, everyone seemed to get along fairly well and bullying and cliques were not more common than in other schools. Because the shooters wore trench coats the day of the shooting, the media also reported that they were a part of a “trench coat mafia” ...

...ferent types, places it occurs, and the effects were reported. From the parents, the frequency of bullying, different types, and the effects were surveyed and reported. The frequency of bullying, different types of schools, and anti-bullying prevention methods were also reported from the teachers. The adults surveyed were asked if they were bullied as a child and the long-lasting effects were reported.
This source is helpful to my paper because it focuses on the opinions from students, teachers, parents and adults, which none of the other surveys have done. It is also helpful because several of the same questions were asked to different categories of people with very different results, which proves that there are discrepancies in how bullying is viewed among different people. A blind spot of the survey is that it was focused on people in the UK and not Americans.
