Anne Frank is the essential to understanding the horrors of the Holocaust. Anne’s full name is Annelies Marie Frank. She was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. In her family it’s her father Otto Frank, her mother Edith Frank, her older sister Margret Frank and herself the youngest in the family. On September 3, 1944 they were transferred to Auschwitz death camp in the middle of the night. When they arrived men and woman were separated this was the last time Anne saw her father and the last time Otto saw his wife and children. Later Anne and Margret was transferred to Bergan-Belsen concentration camp. A few weeks after Anne and Margret left Edith died of starvation. In Bergan-Belsen food was scarce and a disease called typhus was going around which sadly both Margret and Anne caught. Anne died a few weeks before British soldiers took over the camp. Anne’s diary has been written in 67 different languages. When her diary was first published it was called “Anne Frank” they soon changed it to “Anne Frank the Diary of a Young Girl”. At the beginning of her life, Frank’s family was a relatively normal German-Jewish family living just outside of Frankfurt. Her father, Otto Frank, was a business owner and her sister, Margot Frank, was three years older than her. They moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1933 because of the threat to their lives because of their Jewish Heritage.

She lived in a very bad time during the Holocaust, where she either had to hide or go to a concentration camp. Anne Frank is a normal girl that should be going to school and not be in hiding from the Nazis and should not have to take the sacrifices of having no friends, no ability to be free and to express her religion. I consider Anne a hero because of all the dedication to staying free and not having to be under a dictatorship.
After getting married Otto and Edith Frank settled down in Frankfurt, Germany. They’d soon have their two children. Margrot in 1926, and Anne Frank three years later. In his writing, Otto Frank remembers that the relationship between Anne and her mother was “… not particularly good understanding …” Anne Frank says in her diary, “I need my mother to set a good example … but in most matters she’s an example of what not to do.”

Night tells the story of Elie’s life during the Holocaust. Elie was born in Sighet Transylvania and in 1944 he and his family were taken from their homes and put in concentration camps. The book tells everything that happened to Elie and his father in Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps. Another very popular book would be Anne Frank’s Tales from the Secret Annex. This story was written by Anne Frank in a diary that she kept with her while hiding from the Nazis in the “secret annex” when she was thirteen-years-old. Anne was killed during the Holocaust but her diary was found and published by a family member. Even though Anne did not survive, we still remember her through her diary. These people and stories that have survived through the Holocaust are the biggest piece of evidence that the Holocaust happened.
