Anne Frank
“In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.”(Anne Frank). Anne Frank was a young girl who was stuck in hiding with her family and four other people in a small annex of a business. Her rights began to deplete as Hitler gained control. She wrote in a diary that told the dates and events of what has happened. As you will read the historical events influenced the moods of the characters in the play “ The Diary of Anne Frank” by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett.
For Anne, her family, the Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel their rights started depleting and everyone started feeling that impact of the Nazis empowering. As soon as he arrives Peter Van Daan takes out his penknife to tear off is star of david. “ …show more content…

Frank. “I can't stay in Amsterdam, Miep. it has too many memories for me. Everywhere there's something… the house we lived in… the school… the street organ playing out there… I'm not the person you used to know, Miep. I'm a bitter old man. [Breaking off] Forgive me. I shouldn't speak to you like this… after all that you did for us… the suffering…” (Hackett, 103). Mr. Frank now realizes how big of an impact the war made on him and how much it hurt him. He lost all of his family and friends and he cant get them back not ever. “That's how I found out about my wife's death… of Margot, the Van Daans... Dussel. But Anne… I still hoped… Yesterday I went to Rotterdam. I'd heard of a woman there… She'd been in Belsen with Anne… I know now.”( Hackett, 187).This clearly shows that Mr. Frank had faith in Anne still being alive. He had faith that she was still left and that they could find each other and grieve together but when he found out about that woman that was with her in Belsen he did not want to know the truth he wanted her to be alive, but he was the last person from the secret annex left …show more content…

“ Then things got very bad for the Jews. you could not do this and you could not do that. They forced father out of his business. We had to wear yellow stars. I had to turn in my bike. I couldn't go to a Dutch school any more. I couldn't go to the movies, or ride in an automobile, or even a streetcar, and a million other things. But somehow we children still managed to have fun. Yesterday Father we were going into hiding. Where, he wouldn't say. At five o'clock this morning Mother woke me and told me to hurry and get dressed. I was to put on as many clothes as I could It would look to0 suspicious if we walked along carrying suitcases. It wasn't until we were on our way that I learned where we were going.” ( Hackett, 104). Anne realizes that her rights are depleting and they have to go. She explains what was happening such as having to wear stars and how she couldn't do this or that, yet how the kids always found a way to have fun. “...If you should find this diary, will you please keep it safe for me, because some day i hope… In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” (Hackett, 186 & 187). This clearly shows that Anne wants someone to find her diary and keep it safe so it could one day be shared with the world and tell people her story. It also shows how she believes that even through what has happened she still believes that people are really good at
