Identity Theft is when your identity information is stolen and taken advantage of either for money or overall a better life. Anndorie Sachs, Phillip Cummings, and Abraham Abdallah all are involved in cases dealing with identity theft. Anndorie Sachs is a victim to medical identity theft and lost 10,000 dollars in the process. Someone named Moran stole her driver’s license and personal belongings out of her car and went to the hospital to deliver a baby. Moran was caught a while after and was put in county jail for identity fraud with 2 warrants for illegal possession of a substance and theft for the personal belongings she took out of Ms. Sachs car. Today, it is one of the fastest growing crimes occurring all over the world. Data suggests that identity theft accounts for roughly $50 billion stolen each year from citizens and businesses in the U.S. I believe that more attention should be targeted towards identity theft because of the detrimental effects it can have on a single victim and on our nation’s economy. Topics I will discuss include statistics about the crime, laws that protect the victims of the crimes, and what we are doing to prevent future attacks from happening.
