Do you think animal testing is needed? Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. If they don’t find anything on the animal then the animal was killed for nothing. Animals shouldn’t be used for testing because animal testing is cruel and inhumane, animal can suffer like humans do, so it is speciesism to experiment on them while we refrain from experimenting on humans, and animals are very different from humans which makes them poor test subjects.
First off, Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. The Humane Society International states that,”Animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds.”The commonly used LD50 (lethal dose 50) test involves finding out which dose of a chemical will kill 50% of the animals being used in the experiment.”This means that they take the animals alive and basically torture them. There is a moral blind spot in the treatment of animals that enable us to justify the cruelties for the perceived benefits of humans. Animals are living things. They have lungs which breathe, hearts which beat, and blood that flows. In fact, animals sense of smell, sight, and sound is much more acute than our own. Therefore, we can assume that their sensitivity to pain is at least equal to ours. According to Hippocrates, “The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different.” This can go with the Duty Theory that states that every individual gets treated the same. The intentions of animal testing is not to harm the animals, but that is exactly what it does.
Over 100 Million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in testing labs every year. Animals are used to test the safety of products, advance scientific research, and develop models to study disease and to develop new medical treatments, all for the sake of mankind. Animals should not be used for scientific research because animal testing is inhumane, other testing methods now exist, and animals are very different from human beings. While animal testing has led to many life-saving cures, animal testing is cruel and inhumane because it involves inflicting pain and harm on the test subject to study its effects and remedies. Today, millions of animals are captured in cold laboratories feared to be tested on once again across the country. Imagine living a life with constant pain, ache and loneliness, and to dream about roaming free. I believe animals should not be tested on for products because all living things should be treated humanely, there are other ways to test products, and millions of animals are put to their death because of the labs.

There are several statistics that point to the negative side of animal testing. There are more pointing to the negative than to the positive. What is the point on testing on animals when we have statistics like how only 1.16% of the diseases are found in animals, or that 92% of the things that do pass through animal testing do not even work on humans? Europe, Israel, and India have already banned animal testing for cosmetics, because it was too harmful on the animals.

Since the animals have different internal organs than humans only 5-25% of the testing results are agreeable between animals and humans. Humans don’t allow animals to have the right to say that they don’t want to be tested on, but humans have the rights to say they do or do not want to be tested on.
