Animal Testing Is Bad Science

It is often claimed that almost all recent medical achievements has depended on research upon animals. One reason they state is that “Biological processes are surprisingly similar across different organisms so researchers can learn about biological processes by studying simple organisms” (Animal Research Finding Cures, Saving Live). They also claim that “We have to observe the complex interactions of cells, tissues, and organs in living animals” (Animal Testing Is Bad Science). However, that is not the case. Although a few advancements have been accomplished by animal studies, most of our medical achievements are attributed to other forms of research, apart from animal studies. Some people state that biological processes are the same across …show more content…

This is incorrect however, because most of medical advancement has been accomplished by testing on humans instead of animals. For example, PETA states that “Many of the most important advances in health are attributable to human studies, including the discovery of the relationships between cholesterol and heart disease and smoking and cancer, the development of X-rays, and the isolation of the AIDS virus” (Animal Testing is Bad Science). Another statement was made by multiple medical historians, stating that research has shown that better nutrition, sanitation, and other factors have helped humans live longer, rather than animal research (Using Their Heads). Not only has human research already improved modern medicine and advancements, but “human health is more likely to be advanced by devoting resources to the development of non-animal test methods, which have the potential to be cheaper, faster, and more relevant to humans, instead of to chasing leads in often inaccurate tests on animals” (Animal Testing is Bad Science). These pieces of evidence also support that animal testing is not beneficial to human health, but instead the use of non-animal testing methods like humans …show more content…

Experiments on animal test subjects including rats and chimpanzees has shown little to no results. This research has shown how many medical “achievements” such as vaccines developed using animal testing failed to improve human health. Not only is animal research ineffective, but PETA shows us that most of the recent medical advancements, like research against a variety of diseases, were achieved without animal testing. Overall, we can conclude that the majority of our medical advancements are attributed to other forms of research. Not animal
