Angela Merkel earned her doctorate in physics and worked as a chemist and scientist. She started her political career in 1989 as a deputy spokesperson for East German Government and became Germany's first female Chancellor in 1995. Regarded by many as the most powerful person in world, she has little style and less charisma, is not a good speaker, takes forever to make decisions and displays no obvious political vision or even ideology. Learning from Nelson Mandela, Merkel is leading from behind (the ultimate form of purpose-based leadership), in other words, “viewing leadership as a collective activity”. While it may seem like Merkel is publically responding to political matters with vagueness, she actually accomplishes everything she set out to do behind the scenes. Angela Merkel is known for deliberately dull critical issues in order to defuse the severest conflicts with her opposition and often seeks the middle ground. While remaining committed to her own political ideals, Merkel has repeatedly showed a capacity to embrace and absorb many policies and opinions of political opponents e.g. the “abandoning of nuclear power, raising social security benefits for families, capping rent rises, promising a minimum wage”. The result is a strong middle ground that really does incorporate the best of all viewpoints. In conclusion, Angela Merkel’s is regarded as one of the world’s greatest leaders and her values have helped to reverse and rescue Germany's reputation from the past. Her actions are inspiring, she is optimistic, has integrity, confidence, is decisive, consciensciousness, extraversion and she support and facilitate her country as
