Pit burials, also known as pit graves, are the earliest form of ancient Egyptian burial practices. All ancient Egyptians, both rich and poor, were buried in shallow pit graves that were situated in the desert. The earliest type of grave housed that corpse and gradually small mementos of the of the deceased were buried with them, such as their weapons or the tools that were used by the deceased. A shallow rectangular grave, usually with rounded corners, was prepared according to the length of the body and was situated on the edge of the desert area. The grave was positioned facing the River Nile, so that the both faced the west. The River Nile in ancient Egypt was believed to be the bridge to the entry to the afterlife. The funerary rituals introduced by the Egyptians were the most intricate, spiritual rites in their times and, perhaps, even to this day. Their elaborate customs, tombs, and gifts to the dead were representative of their pious, devoted nature. Albeit not all were as imposing as the oldest and still remaining Seven Wonder of the World, the Pyramids of Giza, all were meaningful and sacred. The Egyptians, highly reverent of their dead, adopted ornate, religious burial practices to fit to every member of their society.
To study history, the facts and information must be passed down. To do so, historians record the information in textbooks and other nonfiction works. Whether or not the historians retell facts or construct their own version of history is debatable. History can be percieved as being “constructed” by the historians due to their bias, elimination of controversy, strive for entertainment, and neglect to update the information.
Upon completion of this procedure, the body will now be ready for burial. Egyptians used other methods of embalming. One method attributed to the lower class was to bury the body in the desert sand for a lengthy period of time. Then the sand was sunk. A beginning group of historians to take a closer look at is the empiricists. The empiricists have a very strictly factual and logical view on history and how to examine it. They believe that past is both “observable and verifiable” and that through adherence to three strict principles, the past can be represented objectively and accurately. (Green, Troup 3) The three aforementioned principles can be summed up as: meticulously examining historical evidence and verifying the evidence with references, making sure the research is completely impartial and free of biases and prejudices, and using an inductive, or observational, method of reasoning. (Green, Troup 3) The empiricists seek to find universal historical truths through objective research and sticking to the facts.

...or that matter. And that is exactly what archeologist do. They go looking for ways to perfect our knowledge about history and alter if the need is there. Studying history help me understand current events because like people say history repeats over and over. They had kings, pharaohs, and emperors back then and now we have presidents, kings, queens, and the pope. Besides technology and people nothing really seamed to change. Writing this essay and learning about events that happened in Rome proved to be interesting. If a part of history is learning about almost everything there is to know about a person and their lifestyle, then this would be something that I speculated on, on a regular basis because Marcus Aurelius had a very interesting life. Basically feel almost as though I watched him grow up, become emperor and pass away as if I was next to him the whole time.
