Jordan Peele’s social thriller Get Out was recently nominated in comedy category of the Golden Globes. While the movie did have scenes of comedy it certainly does not fall into the category of comedy. Although Peele stressed that the movie could not fit into a category he stated he had nothing to do with it being submitted as a comedy. Furthermore, the outcome has striken up the continuous problem of the African American community not being taken seriously in almost every aspect of their lives. To summarize, Get Out is a movie based around the presence of racism in society. Director Jordan Peele presented the subject in an entertaining, creative, and effective way. His movie definitely opened the eyes of some people and drew attention to the issue. Although his movie was effective, some argue it is not ethical because he made the implication that all white people are racist. I personally believe that it was ethical; I do not believe his intention was to stereotype, I think he just used an extreme case to aid in getting the point
The movie “Walkout” is about the school system in East Los Angeles in the late 1960’s. During this time Mexican Americans were treated unfairly and were seen as second class citizens. The story goes through the different aspects that Mexican American/ Chicano students had to put up with within their own schools. They wanted and deserved equal education, but were constantly shut down by the city. This movie contains the four characteristics of Mexican American Art, which is what gives this movies such a strong and meaningful message.
In cotemporary America, cultural text such as films form many conceptions of race, gender and social for the people who watch them. This paper argues four Key and Peele skits “Substitute Teacher”, “I Said B*tch”, “Phone Call” and “Proud Thug” to challenge and complicate gender norms by highlighting the ways in which gender, race and class are performed in public and private settings. When you critically examine these texts there are stereotypes that underlay the film that are obvious, but are portrayed as comical. The intersectionality between gender, race and class are often addressed in many of these short skits. Often the films or skits engage in patriarchy and the main characters are men. In order to further examine the topic first we must address intersecionality, patriarchy, poverty, and class to grasp a better understanding.
Blacks in America today have overcome so much and had to prove themselves for many years. The progression of blacks through history has been slow and not always easy. As an African American I respect the struggles that blacks like Cecil Gaines had to overcome to get blacks where they are today. Even after slavery ended in 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation was signed blacks still struggled for equal rights for many decades. It took a long time for African Americans to be looked at as equals and get equal benefits even after slavery ended.
But, still every morning we see or hear to some news saying that a black is killed or a white shot a brown man and said that ‘get out of my country’. These lines then really hurts, but, what we do, when we hear this; nothing. We can only debate or think but are unable to bring a big change. Similarly, an effort done by Jordan Peele is appreciable. He made a really good movie named as “Get Out” which revolves around experiences faced by black people. Following thesis will throw light on some of the aspects seen in the movie “Get Out”.

Equality has been one of the more problematic throughout the years. For example, when people owned slaves and before men and women were made equal there was no sense of equality through all people. Recently there has been a battle for more equality towards African-Americans. They believe that they are not being treated the same as white people, so they have been standing up for what they think is right. WEB Dubois wrote an essay in which he said African Americans and minorities should work hard and achieve success because of what their ancestors went through. I agree with mr.Dubois, and I think that he has a great point. Our ancestors worked hard to end slavery and segregation. For one, colored people suffer more financially. In the year of 2001, twenty-two point seven percent of colored people lived in poverty as for whites it was only seven point eight percent. For three years, colored people suffered a wealth reduction of thirty-one percent and white people only suffered a percentage of eleven. Financially, colored people suffer way more than whites do. Another thing someone needs to achieve their dream would be to have money and/or have good finances. African Americans cannot achieve their dreams if they are not good financially. in 2001, the per capita income for whites was over twenty-four thousand dollars, while for colored people it was barely over fifteen thousand. These income gaps show how much of difference there is between coloreds and whites financially. The average middle class net worth for whites and colored people also have a huge gap. The net worth for a colored family is eleven thousand dollars while for a white family it is one-hundred and thirty-four thousand dollars. That gap is ridiculous and is just not fair one bit.
