Analysis of the Film, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
The deep jungles of South America, 1936. Three men trudge through the thick foliage, until one of them steps back from the others, pulling a gun. The leader of the group spins around, flashing his whip with incredible speed and knocking the weapon away. Thwarted, the gunman runs for his life as the dashing leader steps out from the shadows and reveals the grizzled face of…Han Solo. Unless you lived in a dark cave on Neptune during the late 1970s, this would have been the only plausible reaction to Harrison Ford’s reveal shot in the opening sequence of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. With a look that Spielberg admits comes right out of the classic serials of the 1930’s, Ford brings his grit, toughness, ingenuity, and unnaturally charming face to this quintessential action/adventure film.

The Alamo portrays the historical battle between Santa Anna controlling the Mexican Army and the Texan Defenders who are defending The Alamo, a mission located in San Antonio, Texas. The film is heavily concentrated on the year 1836, specifically the months February and March, and the year 1835. The film stars Dennis Quaid as Sam Houston, Billy Bob Thornton as David Crockett, Jason Patric as Jim Bowie, and Patrick Wilson as William Travis. The Alamo is a historically accurate movie that involves history, war, and immense amounts of drama.
To fully appreciate the significance of the plot one must fully understand the heroic journey. Joseph Campbell identified the stages of the heroic journey and explains how the movie adheres meticulously to these steps. For example, the first stage of the hero’s journey is the ordinary world (Campbell). At the beginning, the structure dictates that the author should portray the protagonist in their ordinary world, surrounded by ordinary things and doing ordinary tasks so that the author might introduce the reasons that the hero needs the journey in order to develop his or her character or improve his or her life (Vogler 35). The point of this portrayal is to show the audience what the protagonist’s life is currently like and to show what areas of his or her life are conflicted or incomplete. Throughout the fantasy film, Conan the Barbarian, the directors use many different film techniques to imply to the audience a specific message or deeper meaning. The film is about a young boy losing his family and being forced into slavery under the ruling of Thulsa Doom and his followers. Conan grows up being exposed to a barbaric lifestyle. He then uses this lifestyle to defeat Thulsa Doom and the disturbing ritual-like worshiping of the serpent. The directors use of cinematography to convey relationships, and costumes to portray the time period and social status of the characters.

Pull it together men!” This perhaps is what thoughts were running through Sir Francis Drake’s mind at the point of one of the worst battles fought for his country, the battle between the English and the Spanish Armada. Militarily and economically, England wasn't the world power that they would soon become. “El Draque” or “The Dragon” the Spanish called this English admiral out of fear. Sir Francis Drake was born at Crownsdale, near Tavistock, Devon around the 1540’s. He served, as an apprentice in the Thames Coastal Trade after his father became a preacher at Chatham. He led several expeditions against the Spanish Main as well as an attack against the Spanish city of Cadiz. Drake was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe and he helped defeat the Spanish Armada in 1588. He was a successful privateer, a talented navigator and one of the most famous seamen in history.
It’s seven thirty in the morning, the time that most American high schools begin class. Instead of being chipper and ready to learn, most teenagers, at this time of the morning, can barely remain awake. These puffy eyed pupils are by no means ready to learn. Sixty percent children under 18 reported being sleepy during the day, with another fifteen percent reporting that they had fallen asleep during the school day within the past year (National Sleep Foundation, Dozing). Though adolescents require a larger amount of sleep than younger children, they usually receive much less (Indiana University Center for Adolescent Studies). The amount of sleep a teenager receives affects him or her both physically and mentally. Sleep deprived teenagers are more likely to be irritable, be depressed, not perform up to their capabilities in school, and have a decreased ability to handle complex tasks (National Parent Information Network). Though teenage sleep deprivation is a big problem, some simple solutions such as rescheduling the school day to fit teenagers’ biological needs, setting consistent sleep schedules, and teaching children the importance of proper sleep habits can easily remedy this problem.
There are many similarities between the movie Clash of the Titans and the original Greek myth but there are also many differences. In the movie Clash of the Titans, Perseus goes on an adventure to retrieve Medusa’s head to kill the Kraken in order to kill Hades. In the Greek myth story, Perseus goes to retrieve the head of Medusa to stop a king from marrying his mother.
Into the Wild, a novel written by Jon Krakauer, as well as a film directed by Sean Penn, talks about Chris McCandless, a young individual who set out on a journey throughout the Western United States, isolating himself from society, and more importantly, his family. During his travels, he meets a lot of different people, that in a way, change his ways about how he sees the world. There are many characteristics to describe McCandless, such as “naïve”, “adventurous”, and “independent”. In the book, Krakauer described McCandless as “intelligent”, using parts in his book that show McCandless being “intelligent”. While Krakauer thinks of McCandless as being “intelligent”, Penn thinks of McCandless as a more “saintly” type of person.
The movie I chose to analyze for historical accuracy was War Horse. This movie was set in the First World War, starting in Britain but the story also explored France and Germany during this time period as well. Three scenes will be analyzed: the trench warfare scene between the British and the Germans, the scene where the British soldiers were gassed, and the scene where the British were getting patched up and nursed. War Horse does well to stick to the historical accuracy of what happened during the First World War due to the fact that the three scenes that I have chosen to analyze are not embellished and are close to what really happened.
*Hunt for the Wilderpeople* builds on Waititi 's drama/comedy combination and further cements his auteur status. *Wilderpeople* is about an orphan boy who moves from one foster family to another, generally being a delinquent. This causes him to earn the title of "a real bad egg". The majority of the film takes place as Ricky Baker is on the run through the vast forest. While structurally different than *Boy*, both films deal with coming-of-age, parents, and loneliness. Unlike *Boy*, *Wilderpeople* is divided up into ten chapters and an epilogue. Despite this, *Boy* is the more episodic film. Since *Wilderpeople* relies more on a causal narrative, it seems more like a standard Hollywood film at first. But Waititi finds a way to make it his own.

Peter Jackson directed three films that is a part of The Hobbit trilogy. The films are called An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again. It is an adaption of the 1937 novel by J.R.R Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Jackson has also directed the prequel of The Hobbit films called the The Lord of the Rings (film series).
The film Amistad is based on a true event that occurred in 1839. It is about a mutiny by recently captured slaves, who take over a ship known as La Amistad, and the legal battle that followed regarding their freedom. The movie begins by showing many Africans chained together on the lower deck of La Amistad. They manage to break free and go to the upper deck and attack the sailors, leading a mutiny and taking over the ship. They leave two men alive to guide them back to Africa, but they point them towards the US. When they arrive in the states, the Africans are thought to be runaway slaves, and are imprisoned. The case of their freedom is taken to court, to decide whether the Africans were originally slaves or free men. One lawyer decides to fight for them, and pleads his case that the Africans were never slaves and were indeed free men. The case eventually makes it to the Supreme Court and a translator is eventually found to communicate with the leader of the Africans, and he tells his story. He was one of many illegally captured in Africa, and sold into slavery. When the time comes for the trial, John Quincy Adams pleas for their freedom. After a grueling trial, the slaves are said to be free men, and are to be sent back to their homeland, Africa.
In the 2010 movie “Clash of the Titans” a man named Perseus discovers he is the son of Zeus, and is called upon the doomed city of Argos to save them from Hades and the monster known as the Kraken, set upon them by Zeus after the royals of the city insulted the gods; Perseus, tasked with finding a way to defeat the Kraken, went and cut of the head of Medusa, and used it to turn the monster to stone; and with the help of his father, sent Hades, who had betrayed Zeus, back to the underworld. The ancient greek tale which the movie was based on had a king Acrisius that was told that someday he would be killed and overthrown by his grandson; upon hearing this he imprisoned his beautiful daughter, Danae, in a dungeon, where she was visited and impregnated by Zeus; discovering the newborn child, the king locked Danae and his grandson in a chest and threw them in the ocean, where they were rescued by a fisherman, whom Danae married and they raised Perseus; to save his mother from a cruel king, he agreed to recover the head of a gorgon, which he did; on his way home he he
