Research and observations show that the general profile of a serial killer is a white lower to middle-class male from 20-30 years of age. Over 90% of serial killers are men. They are most often single and have unusually high IQ’s. Most children who become serial killers wet the bed past age 12. They will torture animals or have an obsession with starting fires. They come from abusive families, families of a single mother, or an absent father. They suffer mental and physical abuse and attempt suicide regularly. Types of serial killers are medical killers, organized, and disorganized serial killers. Medical serial killers commit their crimes in hospitals or through fatal medicines because they think it is easy to blame a death on an overdose …show more content…

The alleged seven murders the Zodiac committed were between December 1968 and October 1969, mostly by shooting and in some cases decapitation by knives. Arthur Leigh Allen is one of many suspects who has the most circumstantial evidence to confirm that he may be the Zodiac Killer. Allen lived a strict childhood, due to his father being in the navy. He had one younger brother. At the age of ten Allen moved from his birthplace of Hawaii to California. The only documented possibly traumatic event of Allen’s childhood is his witnessing of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Most of Allen’s documented life is in his later years rather than his childhood. He skipped three grades and graduated high school at the age of 16. He majored in art and literature in college. Like his father, Allen joined the navy. Allen was dishonorably discharged from the navy in 1957 for disorderly conduct. He then received a degree in teaching 3 years later. Just before his college graduation, he was arrested for a disruptive disagreement with an acquaintance. He was fired from his first teaching job within just two years, then had a short summer job as a nurse. He then had another teaching job from which he was fired for possession of a firearm on school grounds. His last teaching job in 1968 was terminated for molestation of a student. His high IQ led him to have the potential to keep very honorable jobs like teaching and nursing, but his conduct played a negative role in his ability to keep these jobs. It is undocumented if Allen was ever married or had children. Allen suffered from depression and alcoholism. Allen was never sent to trial and any evidence police found was often dismissed, although very convincing such as matching shoe prints, living close to the victims and close to where the murders occurred,
