“The taxi driver” by Friedman (2006) express a modern day situation where a passenger and a taxi driver both focus on their devices instead of communicate to each other. While the taxi driver is talking on the phone and playing a movie on the panel instead of the G.P.S. road map. Friedman which the passenger also try to finish his work on his laptop and listen to the music from his iPod. Friedman believes that the improvement technology is the reason he did not get to have a conversation with the taxi driver because both of them are too focus on their devices instead of opening up their mouth. As “The mobile bystander” by Basulto (2012) explains the “mobile bystander” effects of how we the people takes pictures of the scene instead of helping the victims when tragic happen. Even when two people are having dinner, both of them would take pictures of the meal in front of them rather than communicate with each other. But technology only intensified the bystander effects due to the fact that human have a tendency of being a bystander. There are still witness on the scene that willing to help the victim but that would up to their personality of not being a bystander. My parents were not familiar with technology and how it work. They did not know that technology can help them see their family members that lives far away from them. Since we moved to the United State of America, my mother only can talk to her family members by calling them, she can only heard their voice but can not be able to see their faces. Thanks to the improvement of technology, my mother can now use her mobile device to contact her family and can also see their faces. It made a huge difference between listening to their voice and seeing their face plus heard their voice at the same time. My mother was able to connect with her family members across the world because of technology now she feels like she was around with them even though she was not there physically. The connection of me and my father increase due to the fact of technology. Personally I born in the era where using technology was a must for our life. The connection between family was not that important compared to the checking up the feeds of my acquaintances that I might only appear in my life for once.
