Mary Shelley was the author of many popular books some of these include; Frankenstein, Valperga, The Last Man, and etc. First is Frankenstein, Mary first published this book anonymously in 1818, but in the year 1823 after learning its popularity she published it with her name. This may have aggravated people because women were not respected as much as they are now and they mostly would have preferred it was written by a man. Frankenstein is about a young scientist who goes by the name of Victor Frankenstein. Throughout the story victor travels the world conducting stories until one day he settles down and performs an experiment. The Last Man is considered to be a science fiction book by Mary Shelley. It was written in the year 1826. The main setting of the book takes place in a world that has been destroyed by some sort of massive plague that has killed a massive amount of people like a modern version of the black plague. The main character in the book is, Lionel Verney, he is the son of a nobleman who was friends with the king at the time, but due to unfortunate events he is made an orphan. Throughout the story Lionel resents royalty and nobility only because they sent his father into exile because of his horrible gambling debts. Then he meets a new friend who goes by the name Adrian who is the Earl of Windsor. After becoming close friends with Adrian Lionel has some of his faith restored in humanity and also learns the major importance of education. When the king of Windsor died the queen tried to make Adrian take over the throne, but she was not successful cause Adrian refused then fled to a small town where he then meets the main character Lionel. Another person named Lord Raymond has returned to England after a long period of time. His goal was to take the throne by marrying Idris as a first step but is late thrown from that idea and marries someone else thus leaving Idris for Lionel. Mary based this book off of one of her earlier books called The Last Man. Mary made the main character in this book based of Percy Shelley. In addition she has made herself the wife of the main character. Throughout the book she tries to recreate events that has happened in her life such as; her surviving after the death of her husband, and the attempt she made at running a household without a man to help her which was fairly difficult in the time she was raised in. In the book though she makes the woman more masculine and able to handle her own in the cruel and unfair world. The story starts off with three knights fleeing from combat due to the battle that they just lost. They were supposed to be hunted down and killed, but since they had connections in other parts of civilizations they were able to get new names and blend in to other families and live semi-normal lives.
