This essay is going to be a summary of From Clue to Dock’s chapter 7, The Kidnapping of Charlie Ross. The Ross family was a wealthy one which led to a pair of criminals to plan the abduction of Charlie and his older brother Walter, three years old and seven years old, respectively. It is a mystery till this date what happened to a little boy named Charlie Ross from Philadelphia.
This mystery first began on July 1st, when both Charlie and Walter could not be located anywhere that day. As the police were given notice to locate these wealthy boys on behalf of their father soon after a telegraph was sent all over the city. After many hours of searching Walter was found a long ways from his home, eight miles away.
When Walter was brought home he accounted the events that had lead up to his discovery in the country side. He remembered playing in front of the home as two men in their car invited Walter and Charlie inside. The car pulled off rapidly when the children climbed inside and soon after Walter began to fuss and shout. This lead for the abductors to become frustrated, knowing the older child would bring more issues, so they ditched him on a country road and continued on without Walter.
As this crucial piece to the puzzle was added by Walter, the police informed more officers to be on the lookout for the perpetrators. Meanwhile, Mr. Ross had issued a reward for any clues on the case by using ads. The police however, did not approve of Mr. Ross’ ads. They believed that for Mr. Ross to agree to pay for any information for the mystery would condone even more behaviors of such. The more optimistic approach to what happened to the young Charlie Ross is that nothing occurred to him and he got to live well into an elder age, not knowing the horrors that occurred to him at such a young age. On the other hand, the pessimistic approach to what happened to him was that Moster had ditched Charlie in a remote location while the bandits went out on what would be their final heist. Leaving Charlie to suffer and die alone. With whichever theory, what truly happened to Charlie Ross remains a mystery till this day.
Each clue that was added to puzzle of the Charlie Ross mystery was not enough to complete the whole puzzle in the end. The main piece needed to finally put an end to the suffering endured by the Ross family, as well as Charlie himself was blown to smithereens the moment that Bill Moster was killed.
